Amy Nachtigall is the baker behind Sugared & Spiced Baked Goods.
She may have been baking her whole life, but it wasn’t until 2012 that she began sharing her baking with the world at the Highlands Farmers’ Market. Sugared & Spiced quickly gained attention for its creative cookie flavours, such as chocolate chip-peanut butter-bacon, and in 2013 was named one of Tomato Magazine’s top 100 things to eat in Edmonton. Various items from the Sugared & Spiced menu have appear on this list again in 2014, 2016, and 2017.
Amy graduated from NAIT’s Baking Certificate program in 2013 before setting out on her own and taking orders for cakes, cookies, scones and all manner of baked goods. Her baking has been praised by the Edmonton Journal, CBC Radio, countless blogs and Twitter pages in #YEG as well as by her husband and two children.
While training at NAIT, Amy was also training to run the Boston Marathon. She ran it in 2013, and returned to finish it in 2014. Since then she’s been running a marathon every day to get Edmonton’s most unique bakeshop up and running in a hidden and historic back alley in the heart of Old Strathcona. Sugared & Spiced Baked Goods’ first brick and mortar location opened at Rear-10334 82 Avenue in September 2017. There’s a good chance Amy’s in the back there right now, making something delicious and beautiful.
Amy built her reputation on the quality of her baking and the care she takes, and she’s looking forward to continuing to build personal connections with customers and foodies in Edmonton.
