I’ve been there twice. Both times started in emergency. The first time my son who is 3 had Scarlett fever and they took him in right away. The second time was for my daughter who had bronchiolitis, and was also seen right away.nnThe Doctors, RTs and nurses that helped us were all intelligent and have amazing bedside manner.nnA big shout out to our nurse, Melanie in the surgery recovery unit who took such good care of us
I’m deeply disappointed with the care and professionalism at this hospital. Over time, it became clear that staff priorities did not align with the best interests of patients or their families. Repeated concerns were dismissed or minimized, and communication often felt more focused on protecting the institution than supporting those seeking help.nnParents should be aware that their words can be misinterpreted or used in ways that do not reflect the reality of their child’s situation. Advocacy is essential here, because trust and transparency were noticeably lacking throughout our experience.nnHospitals should be places of safety, honesty, and partnership but that was not what we encountered.
Having had to be at the Stollery emergency several times in the past week, I felt we needed to write a review. Struggling to figure out what is causing my daughter’s pain, it has been a difficult time. On our first visit, nurse Sean was fantastic. He listened to my daughter, asked many questions to truly understand, and provided excellent care. Dr. Griffin was wonderful, encouraging laughter while getting down to trying to pin point the issue. On our second visit, the nurses were not as warm and comforting but the doctor was amazing. I wish I would have gotten her name. She was thorough and provided a referral to a specialist. We received a call 2 days later and have our appointment booked. My daughter is on the road to receiving a diagnosis and treatment. Thank you Stollery Emergency team.
Extremely long wait times at Stollery Children’s Hospital. During my recent visit, my child and I waited over nine hours to receive care. This experience was incredibly stressful and disheartening, especially considering that many families in the waiting area had children who were visibly unwell and in distress.nnWhile I appreciate that Alberta’s healthcare system is publicly funded and that emergency departments are often busy, waiting this long for medical attention for a sick child is unacceptable. Long delays not only compromise patient care but also cause unnecessary anxiety for parents and children who are already struggling.nnI strongly urge Alberta Health Services to review staffing levels, triage processes, and resource allocation to ensure that children receive timely, compassionate, and appropriate care. The Stollery has an excellent reputation for pediatric care, but the current situation in the emergency department does not reflect that standard.nnThank you for taking the time to read my concerns. I hope meaningful changes will be made to reduce these excessive wait times and improve the experience for families in need.
My daughter was in for surgery at the Stollery, in the 1A1 short term care unit, and absolutely everyone we interacted with was out of this world phenomenal.nnThe nursing staff were fantastic and went out of their way to help, the anesthesiologist was kind and caring, and of course the surgeon was great.nnWhat a fantastic team!
