Visited on a Thursday afternoon during our stop at the St. Lawrence Market. Ordered the noodles and mixed veggies - very yummy. Service was friendly and prompt. Good prices for decent sized servings. Local credit cards only, so be sure to have cash if you're not from Canada.
Legendary BBQ pork Char Siu! Truly the consistently best tasting BBQ pork I've had in all my 30 years. My family used to frequent the owners' Spadina location over 2 decades ago and we were really dismayed when they sold the place/closed, so we were absolutely stoked to learn that they had actually relocated to St. Lawrence Market. Even after all this time, when I finally tasted that BBQ pork again, it was just as fantastic as I remembered. Even though I live in Scarborough, I'll be more than willing to make the trek to grab some great food! Highly recommended place to eat!
A good rule of thumb at any market: eat where the workers eat. At this takeout staple in the basement of St Lawrence Market, you're more than likely to see a line around lunchtime of market employees looking for their fix of famous BBQ pork and crispy ginger chicken. Service is always friendly and prices are fair, too. Just be forewarned if you're at the market on a busy day that there aren't many table nearby, so seating may not be the easiest to find.
Yip’s is the best! St Lawrence has so much good food, but Yips is my favorite. Try the Chili Chicken
Having gone to school in the area and eaten at the St.Lawrence market everyday, I can say that yips is hands down the best place to eat in the neighborhood. Good Chinese food at a really good price. I just found out that they have end of the day deals around closing time so I scored dinner AND lunch tmrw for just $12. Friendly service is also a huge plus. Would highly recommend.
Yip's Kitchen is easily one of the best establishment's for lunch/dinner in the St. Lawrence Market. Since moving to the neighborhood this has become one of my lunch mainstays in the market. The combos give you a great amount of food at a fantastic price. Each item ok the menu is DELICIOUS, but I specifically need to call out the Crispy Ginger Chicken which I cannot help but ordering every single time. It can be overwhelming the first time you come here as the line is long and window packed not leaving a great view to see what's available and so many delicious options to choose from. There's often one or two additional noodle options behind the counter that are less visible like my favorite the Shanghai Noodles, but the rice and others are great aswell. The staff are incredibly friendly and make coming back here a recurring treat! If you're a fan of steamed dumplings the Siu Mai offered with mustard is a delicious cheap treat. I've even come in to get just a single chicken drum stick for under $2 if I needed something to tide me over until dinner. Highly highly highly recommend paying Yip's a visit!!
I come for the crispy ginger chicken on fried rice and when I'm extra hungry, add one more item that doesn't disappoint. Very consistent and very friendly. Have had a time eating anywhere else.
It honestly took my wife and I 12 years to find solid Chinese food takeout until we found it in the basement of the St. Lawrence Market. There are many great Chinese restaurants in the city but we've always been on the hunt for quality takeout. When we stumbled upon Yip's, one day after a market run, not only was the food spectacular but the service was second to none. They are such nice people and we've gotten so many free add-ons to entice us to try the next time we go. When I was out of the country for 4 weeks and my wife asked me what I was craving to eat my first meal back, I didn't even hesitate to say Yip's. I was in heaven eating that platter, just as I am every time I eat it. If I could rate 8 stars, I would.
Always hits the spot, and the best Chinese fast take out in the area!
Come here on the regular and am incredibly impressed for what you get and how much you get when compared to what you pay. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and everything is obviously made with care to balance flavours and create something good. This is to your standard Canadian-Chinese steam-table food court grub* what your local dedicated coffee roasters is to an uptown Starbucks. Gems include: - the hot and sour soup - tofu vegetable stir-fry - black bean fish - spring rolls * Not to dismiss those places: They're there to get you food on the quick. But Yip's is another world.
