Best canoe place in Ontario! My friend and I stayed here for a couple of days, rented a canoe and explored the beautiful surrounding area. We had amazing service, the owners were so helpful in providing us with information for hikes and canoe trips, and the food was delicious. Definitely a must when traveling through Northern Ontario!

The Best Outfitters My friend and I live in Scotland. Over the years we have been lucky enough to visit various places in the world to canoe rivers and lakes and enjoy a bit of camping. As foreign visitors, we are very reliant on the outfitters supplying us with the equipment that we require for our trip. Smoothwater were excellent. Due to the quality of information received by email we felt very reassured before we arrived that we would be in safe hands and we were not disappointed. Other than our clothes and sleeping bags they supplied everything that we needed (and that is not always the case with outfitters). The canoe was a beautiful craft, the wooden paddles a joy to use, the tent spacious and robust, and as for the food that we took with us.....fantastic. We stayed one night at the centre after our trip and Johanna was a wonderful hostess - warm and engaging and she is an outstanding cook. And as for Johanna's dad John, he is fast becoming a legend in his own right. He took us to his canoe workshop which was a real pleasure to visit and a privilege. He is a fount of wisdom, dispensed freely and in an enjoyable fashion. We learned a lot from him in a very short time. I cannot rate Smoothwater highly enough. Absolutely brilliant from first contact by email through to pickup, outfitting, transport and accommodation. Oh, and by the way, for all us Brits, RAY MEARS has stayed here - there's a real endorsement, if such is still required! Go to Smoothwater, you won't be disappointed.

Loved our 4 days and nights at Smoothwater! Great place to get outfitted but also a great place to stay and do day trips, photograph and paint from. Johanna's cooking is probably the best surprise! Highly recommend!

Sturdy well maintained equipment. Beautiful and clean property. Incredible friendly and helpful hosts. Large range of outfitting equipment for trips, also a great destination. help with trip suggestion, answering questions and are also more than accomodating. Highly recommended!

Very cool place! Rented a canoe here for two days to explore the lakes around Temagami. The equipment was in very good condition, got some nice information on good spots where to go and the customer service was top notch. Thanks Smoothwater!
