We build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter. Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
Skagit Habitat for Humanity (SHFH) Serving Skagit County for 20 Years...
For the past Twenty years SHFH has provided permanent affordable low income housing for Skagit County families. Once Partner Families are chosen these deserving families work towards future stability and home ownership. The construction process of our Partner Families homes, provides not only hands-on skills but other valuable human services; self-esteem, interpersonal communication and accountability. We also provide education to equip them to become successful homeowners; budgeting, minor home repairs, legal issues, etc.
Our program, Habitat Helpers, provides critical home repairs to low income seniors, disabled, Veterans and families that own their homes. The repairs are necessary due to their physical or financial limitations. Our store not only generates our largest income source to continue our missions, it also provides job opportunities, training and transferable job skills for many individuals. We work with numerous agencies within Skagit County providing these opportunities.
We manage a retail store, providing opportunities for the community to donate new & used materials. These materials are sold and all net profits fund our missions. Our store also provides affordable building materials and home/office furniture to our community and to date has kept 995 tons of waste out of our local landfills. We work with several local agencies, providing job training and hands-on work experience for their intern programs. We also provide volunteer opportunities for community service hours, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, Transitions, school programs, Skagit Valley College, Job Corp, etc.
