Sara provided us with a very informative tour of Seasons Retirement. We were very impressed with what we saw and she was able to answer all our questions. The tour has greatly assisted us in making a decision on a retirement home, when the time comes.
My father is 92 and he's a resident at this home. On a daily basis he compliments how everyone is so pleasant. I have experienced that as well. My complaint is about the amount of food and protein which is served to him on a daily basis. He has complained several times and I have called in and complained twice. It is simply not enough. A 200 lb man requires approximately 100 grams of protein per day. It is very important for him to have a lot of protein for breakfast, in the morning. Since he hasn't ate all evening and all night, he is hungry and needs a hearty breakfast. Pancakes and a slice and a half of bacon is simply not enough. A pancake has about 4g of protein and a slice of bacon is 3 grams. A total of 12.5 grams is grossly insignificant for any person. Our bodies processes pancakes, like sugar. It's not like he's a kid and he can run down the hallway and shake it off. Everyday for a 92 year old person is a important day. And it needs to be respected. When he gets back to his room after breakfast he is tired. I hear it in his voice. He feels and sounds much better when he's had eggs and bacon in the morning. And he's over the top if he ever gets mushrooms. He thinks you splurged. This is a simple request for to do the right thing, serve people with a abundance of pleasure so that they can't ask for anything else more. Serving people is a privilege not a penance. Since we know you have eggs in the building and you'd serve them to him at lunch, why not serve those same eggs to him at breakfast? This whole argument sounds kind of ridiculous doesn't it. If meals are part of your monthly package, I would recommend that you update your menus equaling modern day standard's. This would be so beneficial to all of your guests. I would also enthusiastically suggest that you discard the Canada Food Guide as it is such a deceitful thing to put on the public as 'healthy eating', causing years of devastating diseases that killed our loved ones. In today's world, with the internet, we have doctors who have compounded their studies of nutrition far better than ever could be. These dedicated doctors are eradicating diseases and illnesses that is plagued us for decades. There are Blue Zones in this world, why can't we be a Blue Zone here, simply by changing our ways and our viewpoints?nAnd since you have given your building a new inside look, I would think having a more bountiful array of food would be an inspiration for your guests and a joyess welcoming for new people who want to join your community.
You were the first to mention a pre-health screening. I think my parents are both beyond retirement home status….now. Thank you so much, things became much clearer on what we do next.
I've been visiting my grand father here over the last few days. As I live far away, this has been my first opportunity to do so since he moved here about a year ago. The facilities are top notch. Spacious, clean and well maintained. There's a theater room, a chapel, a very nice dining room, a cafe, a community garden for residents and beatifully landscaped courtyards, as well as several areas with bookshelves or board games for residents to gather in. Most importantly, the staff is wonderfull. They are friendly and courteous it's clear they care about their work and the residents under their care. It's been a great comfort knowing my grandfather is in good hands.
I am so grateful to the staff at Seasons for everything they do for my father. Their thoughtfulness, attention, patience, compassion and communicative joy are touching. Furthermore the beautifully maintained building and multitude of activities make Seasons a place where my father is happy and active. I could not wish for a better place for him.
