Scranton Hobby Center

Place is has a very good selection of trains and cars of most scales. Helpful service. Small store kinda crowded when there is more than 4 or 5 people in the store. Prices were a little high for what you get.

My husband is a model train enthusiast and the proprietor of a hobby store in our hometown. We stopped in Scranton Hobby Center after visiting Steamtown, and we were quite taken aback at the rudeness we encountered from the gentleman behind the counter. He was engaged in deep conversation with the other customer, so we looked around the store for several minutes. Once the customer left, the proprietor? employee? headed to the back of the store without so much as a “hello” or “can I help you”! My husband is very welcoming to all who come in to his store, whether they’re buying something or not. We were very put off by this gentleman’s lack of cordiality and would certainly not visit again. The store was dirty and cluttered, and merchandise was very overpriced.

I'm not sure where all the reviews are coming from saying they're friendly. My husband and I were there on October 12. We walked in and the person behind the counter didn't even pick his head up to acknowledge us for the longest time. When he finally did say hello, he was about as pleasant as a heart attack. That was the extent of the interaction with us. No may I help you, nothing. The place is also cluttered and dirty. Needless to say we walked out and went to Grzyboski's where we were greeted immediately. If you're going to run a business at least make some kind of effort to greet your customers...you never know what they're going to buy.

I’ve been involved with trains for more years than I care to admit to. Scranton Hobby and the Sweeney family has been a rock for the industry for many years. Scranton Hobby is an old school business with extremely knowledgeable and fair owners and very high regarded family in the area. You can trust this business .

Wow!!! Don't know how this shop is still in business. Contacted sales clerk and asked questions about my rc car. He immediately replied by telling me that I purchased a junk rc car online. Terrible, terrible customer service.

The people who work here helped me out with any questions I had, they were very nice, and they had a lot of items on the shelves! Keep in mind though, they mostly sell MTH trains over Lionel.

Great hobby shop, the kind that are truly hard to find nowadays. A large selection of model trains but plenty of other items from model kits to specialty sets. Definitely worth a stop.

Great family Business , awesome ppl to deal with as my grandmother took me there as a kid almost 40 years ago ! Top notch ! Always find what I’m looking for .

Very friendly environment, lots of selections, lots of cars and engines have come from there! Very helpful when it comes to fixing things! Great prices! Short walk from Steamtown.
