Really happy with this company. I needed some 2 x 6 12 foot lengths of tongue and groove pressure-treated lumber, to finish off a fence I was building,, which was not readily available, And I was losing hope after having called at least eight or nine stores. The owner of Schell lumber took my call and specially ordered the lumber, for a better price then I had gotten it at Tamarack building supply (Tamarack has since discontinued carrying the product). Wish I had found them before I started my project as opposed to at the end of it!

Staff are very friendly. They make you feel welcome, which is lacking in many of the big stores. They want to help you select the right products. If you have any questions, they are happy to answer them or send you to someone in the store who knows better. Definitely worth the trip.

If you want assistance or you're not absolutely sure that you've got the right product, then you should probably ask one of the staff. I didn't and I wasted a lot of time on a recent Saturday. I got home and realised I'd purchased stain that was only a "tintable base" and that I probably needed to make another 40 km round trip back to the store. THIS time I phoned the store to speak with an expert and to confirm my suspicion. Yes, it needed tinting. Would I like to make an exchange with an employee who lived closer to me, at the end of his shift? Now, that's a nice offer. But no, Honey was mid-deck in the staining project, so I needed to get on the road. When I got to Schell with my un-tinted stain, three cans of already-tinted stain were sitting on the counter, along with stir sticks, a lid opener, and a gift certificate. Wow! I was impressed. They acknowledged the value of my time and that I was embarrassed that I made a mistake and a little bit ticked that the cashier didn't point out I was buying product that needed to be tinted. Excellent customer service. Now my appreciation of this long-standing Stouffville business will continue AND I will tell everyone else. Definitely shop here. But as I said, if your Spidey Sense says maybe your product needs something (tinting, shaking, another can to complete the application...), make sure you ask. I'm sure if the employee doesn't know, they'll find someone who does. Thank you, Schell Lumber.
