Saltbox Kitchen
"Located in the heart of West Concord village and steps from the West Concord commuter rail station, we are a casual farm-to-table café, Concord’s only craft brewery and a Best of Boston-winning caterer. Our seasonal, globally-inspired menus feature fresh ingredients from Saltbox Farm, Chef Ben Elliott’s family farm built by his grandparents in the 1940s. In all that we do, we are committed to continuing the traditions of agriculture, family and community that have always been a part of Ben's family and of Saltbox Farm."

Not sure how this place has such high reviews. Fried chicken sandwich was slimy dark meat and soggy bun. House beer could not be ordered because they had no clean glasses. Very pricey, poorly plated dishes burger or chicken sandwich served with a side of 3 pickle slices... and slow service. Don't let the "Farm to table" facade fool you. Stay away.
This place has style. As soon as you walk in there is something in the air where you know good things are going to happen. 1. Get the chocolate chip cookies. I ordered one and immediately came back and got two more. 2. Food was great. I did takeout and when I opened the paper box my burger looked just as good and the presentation was taken into consideration. I really enjoyed this place and will be back. Highly recommend!
A wonderful small brewery with a pleasant atmosphere. I had a variety of appetizers and their Oktoberfest beer and was delighted by both. The staff went out of their way to make my wife and I welcome.Food: 5/5
Overcharging and overpriced. Don't go here. There are much better choices in West Concord. A posted $4 turnover rang up to $5. There was back of kitchen fee $0.19 and tax 6.25%, or $0.26. How does that add up to $5? And then had the nerve to ask for a tip? I ordered at the counter, brought my item to my table and then had to bus my own table put all the plates at the service station. The other menu items are also overpriced and expensive for the small portions.
Slightly quirky menu, and not cheap. But very good ingredients well prepared. Easy seating on Wednesday. Very, very busy on the weekend. It's on our shortlist.Food: 4/5
This was a delightful little find. Combination micro brewery and farm to table restaurant. Not a big place but everything was very good. We started with soft shell crab with salad and Maine mussels. The crab was fantastic and the salad was a nice complement, with an unusually large head of asparagus which I would have expected to be tough- but was delicate and delicious. The mussels and broth were seafood sweet, and makes you wish for a loaf of bread and a bigger belly. For entrees, I had deep dive scallops which were seared to perfection, preserving both the flavor and tenderness of the meat, over green beans. My partner had the strawberry pistachio salad with a deep fried goat cheese, which made for a filling dinner. The craft brews were interesting and satisfying. We tried 5 between us, at the suggestions of our waitress, who was knowledgeable and which worked well. Looking forward to coming back.
Love the open kitchen seating available. Fresh from scratch food. The best grilled cheese I've ever had.Food: 5/5
Here's the scoop. Angus burger is the best beef I've tasted. The fries were perfect. The IPA delicious! Parking: Well I usually have no problem.
Man... I really wanted to like this place. It's so cute and has so much potential. Unfortunately, it really falls short on both food and prices. I paid $10 for what was essentially a small pile of chicken salad and a couple slices of avocado on one piece of bread. The roast beef sandwich was slightly better. Sadly nothing to write home about. If you're looking for a place that's going to knock your socks off, this place ain't it.
This is a farm to table restaurant and brewery so expect variation. The food is really good and the Saltbox Prophecy farmhouse ale is also very pleasing. This West Concord restaurant and brew pub provides an opportunity to see the brewery in process and watch the chefs prepare the meal because it offers an open kitchen. Orders are made and paid for then the food is brought to the table. Views of the street and Commuter railroad possible are possible. Parking can be done on the street or in parking lots nearby.
