My boyfriend and I came here last night to celebrate our 4 year anniversary. We loved the food as well as the staff they were all so warm and welcoming. We will definitely be returning for another romantic date night soon!!!!
I visited there for the first time on 9/28/22. Lovely place with a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Food portions were decent. Great place for a special occasion dinner.
First time I ate there...nice place, good food, but I am a PIA and offer as much advice and critique customer feedback as I receive for my work everyday. So here it is: you need some bourbon mixed drinks and perhaps a brandy and scotch selection on the menu, that's almost a must these days. Also, remove broccoli from fish plates, it's too standard and overpowering...go with a milder tasting green like bok choy or even sweet like a sliced yam, cauliflower. Add more or all three to improve color...maybe a shiitaki to provide more depth. The anchovie salad needs a complete overhaul. I have had the best in Naples and the worst Texas. This is somewhere in between. Needs lot's of Romain, croutons should be larger because they get soggy quick, also the red cabbage is a nice touch for color but it was carried away and reminded me of a bank landscape. Use extra virgin olive oil the real stuff , larger softer croutons, shaved manchego or a light pecorino and use whole sliced anchovies...the real fish get em right down the road in Concord at that fancy new supermarket. OK, I did enough...lol! It was overall good though, thanks. I enjoyed.
Excellent Cocktails Amazing Food Lovely Decor. I went to 80 Thoreau for a girls night out and I needed it bad. The food here is incredible. This was maybe the best seared Foie Gras I have every had. Beautiful Texture, Not greasy, and pairing it with the polenta cornbread was GENIUS. Our server was REALLY nice and had great drink recommendations, so glad I listened to her. I will be back very soon.
A great meal, as always. Service is excellent, and the prices are very fair. 9/2008 update - still excellent, great service, fair prices. Our local favorite, by far. 4/2023 - Still the yardstick we measure other restaurants by. A great birthday meal tonight. Kid-friendliness: Not for young children. Older, well behaved children would be fine. Wheelchair accessibility: They're on the second floor, but there's an elevator.
I love the seasonal menu and the delicious selections. I’ve never been disappointed, the food is of the highest quality and cooked to perfection. I’ve eaten both inside and outside and I truly love the atmosphere and the staff is exceptional. Can’t wait for my next visit!
So you miss the burger. I get it. It was good. But to fixate on its absence from the menu would be to miss the essence of this wonderful place, and the dedication of a team who takes care to offer a small but beautiful menu celebrating seasonal, farm-fresh ingredients by coaxing them into the best versions of themselves. Case in point: I do not like radicchio. I took a bite of my husband’s radicchio salad and nearly ate the whole thing. I have never eaten radicchio treated so well. All of the ingredients harmonized perfectly. It was savory and almost caramelized, heady and divine, with none of the overt bitterness I usually dislike. I can no longer say I don’t like radicchio. The lamb shoulder and duck entrees were lovely, with generous portions of the main protein, well-seasoned, moist, tender, perfectly cooked. If I had to quibble, I would wish that there had been more of the supporting ingredients on the plate to make many more balanced bites. Still, the dishes were excellent and well-conceived. Cocktails, wine, dessert… all spot on. Oh, that miso-peanut butter cookie! Almost made us forget about the chocolate custard it came with. I’ve been coming here for many years, pre-, post-, and during Covid take-out, and throughout all of the changes and disruptions, they remain an exceptional dining experience. Comfortable, unpretentious, and relaxing. Don’t come here if you need a burger, or if you are a picky eater, because the menu is small. Always has been. I don’t know why they no longer have the burger; they are aware of how many people are disappointed. I’m sure they have a good reason whether economic, labor-related, or artistic that those of us not in the restaurant industry wouldn’t predict or understand. Maybe they’ll bring it back someday. But in the meantime, 80T is a gem of a restaurant deserving of its loyal following.
When I asked for more bread, the hostess said they might have run out of bread yes, no bread in a restaurant!. Then she brought some, and said that this is the last pieces of bread they had but there was no more butter left yes, no more butter in a restaurant!!. I kid you not. When I told this to the "manager" he looked like a deer facing headlights and mumbled sheepishly that he was not aware that they had ran out of butter. Poor man. The only good thing about the place is Zach. I hope he finds a more decent place to work. He is wonderful. Too good for this place. Way, way too good.
Fantastic meal. Was so nice to be able to dine out again, but chef Caroline really knocked it out of the park. Highlight for me was the strawberry and rhubarb cake with pistachios and rose mascapone, tho it was all great... Monkfish on the bone, tagliatelle with braised lamb, smoked salmon pate, mushroom gnocchi, Spanish mackerel.
Quaint place with the price to match. Crispy soft shell was very tasty though we wished we had more for it. Sea bass was boneless but was a bit dry and vegetables a little bland. Grilled pork was perfectly cooked and support was nice.
