The friendliest people and lots and lots of fresh delicious foods. Smaller towns rock, and this is one of the reasons, way to go Safeway!!!

Their freezer has been broken for at least 6 months, they just continue to sell melted ice cream

Safeway Castlegar is a decent grocery store with a good selection of products, but the experience is often ruined by the staff and the quality of some of the food. On multiple visits, I’ve encountered employees who seem uninterested in helping customers—either standing around chatting with coworkers or acting annoyed when asked for assistance. The deli and hot food section is particularly disappointing, with items that are often barely warm or outright cold, making it clear they’ve been sitting for too long. While the store itself is clean and generally well-stocked, the lack of customer service and the inconsistent food quality make shopping here frustrating. It’s not a terrible place to get groceries, but with a little more effort from the staff, it could be much better.
