I will never return!  The Ruttger family acquired this resort in 1925 and have done almost nothing since.  We stayed in the main lodge and our room was dank, old and run down.  Drop down cielings with stains, closets with no doors, sinks with no cabinetry, round- tube televisions from 1986 and stained carpets and chairs.  We stayed in a "suite" which was simply two rooms combined.  In our sons room the air conditioner didn't work.  When we called to inform the front desk we were given a fan for the first night.  They replaced that unit with an older unit for night two that one also didn't work.  In our room the drapes hung down over the air conditioner preventing circulation and the ability to cool the room until we propped up the drapes with one of the stained chairs.  The bed was so hard that i woke up at 5:00 a.m. because of the aching pain in my back.  The pillows had been slept on so many times they were perfectly flat.  I thought that laying on the floor might be more comfortable but I was afraid to touch the carpet with my bare feet.  The remainder of the resort needs updates and maintenance, outdoor staircases were falling apart, stucco was cracked and coming off the building, the dining room was dark and tired and the main floor bathrooms were simply disgusting.  The bar was the most updated part of this resort.  The grounds have potential and the views of Lake Bemidji are gorgeous but it's time to bring this old run down facility up to the standards of a $200 a night stay!

As one reviewer put it "horrifically outdated"
That being said, the staff was outstanding and gave it a homey feel. It literally looks like it died in the 1980"s. The lodge rooms are very small, the bathrooms are tiny. If you are a bigger person. Sorry for being crass, but you'll have trouble wiping your ass. Owner is more interested in pocketing his income then reinvesting in the great property. His father would be ashamed at the conditions

I always enjoy the atmosphere sitting by the lake. The food is delicious with very generous portions. Very friendly wait staff.

We purchased a day pass and used it for swimming and kayaking. We swam in both the pool and the lake. There were fun, giant floats in the lake that the children really enjoyed. We also enjoyed a great dinner at the restaurant with excellent service. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

It was beautiful! Everything was better than expected. I'm looking forward to returning.
