Beautiful lake, lovely cabins, and a very friendly owner. The resort is laid back, quiet, friendly, and doesn't have the commercial feel--exactly what i was hoping for. Iloved my stay here, and can't wait for the next opportunity I have to come back!

We spent a lovely two days in cabin 9 with our three young children, 6, 3, and 18mo. I wish I could rate this 4.5 stars, since the only real quibble I had with the stay was a small miscommunication between what the website and host said, and what I expected. The facilities themselves are aging, but well-kept. The beach is absolutely divine. As stated it is literally steps from each cabin to the shore, which is sugar-sand soft, and clean. The water is shallow for a good 50 feet and very clear. The inevitable Zebra mussels mean you should probably have water shoes (we all got a few sliced toes). The pine forest provided the comforting smell of warm sap and fallen needles, and the forest floor was rich with wild blueberries and raspberries. (Gathering replenishable resources like fallen wood and berries is legal in a national forest.) On the website it states, "[The cabins] are comfortably furnished with fully equipped kitchens". I expected this to include basic staples like dish soap, paper towels, and salt and pepper, but these things were not there, nor were they available at the "resort store for your convenience [that] stocks basic groceries". I did not visit the store, but I got the impression from my husband that there was little more than firewood and ice ( and the two $6 firewood bundles that we got weren't that great...mostly birch outer bark pieces with little to no long-burning logs). I did get the message from the host when I reserved our spot over the phone that we would need to bring our own towels, so I packed beach towels, dish towels, a dish cloth, two wash clothes and a hand towel, all of which came in handy! I forgot, unfortunately, to pack hand or body soap, and none was provided so we ended up running into town for all the staples I had thought came with a "fully equipped kitchen" and "completely modern" cabin. I was a bit miffed, but it didn't really hamper our enjoyment of the idyllic setting. Also, according to my husband as I did not get a chance to meet our lovely host, the promised "canoes, paddles and life vests, hydro-bikes and a variety of other watersport equipment also available to guests at no charge" were not available. We didn't have much time to use them anyway, but if we had stayed any longer this might have been a big bummer for us. I will definitely keep this spot on our list of future vacation spots, especially now that I know what to pack!!
