Rockland Ear Nose & Throat: Berson Shelley R MD

Let me start by saying that it takes a lot to make me go online and leave a negative review, but this office might be the first to make me do so. Everything was fine at first. The office staff was friendly and the ladies that did audio testing on my ears were also very friendly. When I met with Dr. Berson, she was very short with me and rushed me out the door with a prescription. This was fine with me because I thought the prescription would work. Well, it didn't. I came back. She was still very short with me, didn't know what the problem was, tried to tell me it was allergies, and suggested that I should have an allergy test. I asked the staff member who was helping me how much an allergy test would cost and she told me not to worry because my insurance would cover it. I had the test, and I had common allergies like dust mites. I agreed to try out the allergy shots, once again, on the assurance that my insurance would cover it. Turns out that my CHIROPRACTOR actually solved the ear problem that my ENT doctor couldn't figure out. So I gave up on the allergy shots. I end up getting a bill in the mail for $1,200 for the allergy tests and shots! I went to the office to dispute the bill and was dealt with very nicely by the ladies at the front desk (the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1). They told me if I paid half of the bill today, they'd call it even. Thanks, but no thanks. It was out of their hands so I asked for the manager. She was very cold and didn't care one bit. She basically told me it was my problem. So I walked out. I know I have bad insurance, which is why I asked what it would cost. No one in their right mind would pay $1,200 for allergy tests. The fact that my chiropractor was able to solve the problem that they couldn't makes me wonder how capable Dr. Berson is. I'm sure there is an ENT doctor out there that actually cares about her patients. Keep looking.

Was early for appt with daughter and was left waiting for a full hour. 30 min in I asked for an update and told were next. Walked out. On top of all that - the office isn't the most welcoming. They ask for more personal information, including a photo, I've ever been asked for. I declined the photo when the response to my question on why it was needed was, 'it's required for the security of our medical records.' A bit of a flag that there records are considered insecure without the photo. The offices are not the cleanest looking and definitely need an update. Asked them to shred my daughter's paperwork and was told they were selected from their electronic system, but they refused to show me confirmation that this took place.

Wow, The office looks as though it hasn't been upgraded on 60 years, also smells like a porto-john, they expected me to wait 45 minutes when I was early for my appointment, AND they wanted a photo-ID -- what sort of health care provider needs a photo-ID and WHY??? Needless to say I walked out on my appointment.

Last year the office staff let me down, but this year they're great.
