Story

Rock Hall is a circa 1912 Mediterranean Revival house at 19 Rock Hall Road in Colebrook, Connecticut. The 10,000sqft building was designed by the architect Addison Mizner of Palm Beach, Florida, originally as a home for Jerome Alexandre and his wife Violet Adelaide Oakley. It is reportedly Mizner's only surviving work in the northern United States, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. It is now a hotel.

Rock Hall is an architecturally superb property with an ambience that is unmatched in the Litchfield Hills. Somewhere between a manorial airbnb and a true inn, Rock Hall's main suites on the second floor are extraordinary. Not for everyone, but really you should consider a stay.

Luxury, elegance in a warm and inviting inn. Our stay was beyond our expectations. From the moment we drove up the driveway we knew we in for a very special treat. We were greeted at the front door by, Michael, the innkeeper. A fire was roaring in the magnificent fireplace and everywhere we turned we knew we had made the right choice for a romantic get-a-way. Our room (Chamber 1) was so beautiful and comfortable that we had a hard time leaving. Our breakfasts, made expertly by Michael, not only nourished our bodies but added to the beauty of eating in the dining room. Michael was the perfect host, with great stories of the history of this beautiful inn, providing delectable snacks, mixing whatever drink we asked for, and with a wealth of excellent info about the area sites and restaurants. Our private yoga class and massages added to our wonderful weekend. While this was a romantic get-a-way for us... we're looking forward to bringing our family with us on our next stay.

I was disappointed to learn that a visitor who had simply come for a tour of Rock Hall and who had spent approximately 30 minutes on the property came away with such a negative impression. We treat every Rock Hall visitor with respect and want them to have a better time here than they would anywhere else. Michael and I and all our staff work hard to make sure that happens. Rest assured that any and all visitors to our award-winning property are encouraged to enjoy all our world-class facilities which include relaxing on our chaises and any other seating on our grounds or in the manor house - guests are welcome to smoke in our designated smoking area and use an ashtray!

The breakfast was amazing. Our hosts, Michael and Stella were wonderful. The place was beautiful and they even had an apple orchard to pick some fresh apples. Did I mention a really fun pinball machine? We would stay here again

Here's the deal ,For us The Rock Hall physical attributes are not so bad. Surely though, not the 5 Star luxuary resort the owners claim in written form nor what they tell you in person. We had planned to rent the entire lodge and after meeting the owners, we couldnt wait to get out of there regardless of price or accomadations. We found them to be "CENTRAL CASTING" rude New Yorkers who seemed they were saving us from the Hillbilly Sate of CT by renting their lodge. Non Smokers ourselves, the owner went berserk when we asked about smokers going outside to smoke. She also was so enamoured with her chairs in the pool house, she didn't want anyone using them! The price she paid for them warranted so. I've stayed in the most expensive hotels, resorts in the world as well as Holiday inns and have never heard such language and attitude about their furniture. The bottom line, Rock Hall seems quite nice on the outside, but on the inside, the owners could use some CHARM SCHOOL! Hope they have taken a week off if you book Your money will be better spent at THE WINVIAN or MAYFLOWER
