Rick's Cookhouse is a non-descript little BBQ place. The woman at the register was friendly and honest; she answered truthfully that the pulled pork is on the sweet side, which is not my preference. I want to like this place, but I didn't. We ordered the brisket and rib dinner, which was enough for two. The pricing is good. The ribs were okay, 3*. The brisket was different, the cut is nice and lean but it essentially had no sauce and almost sat in oil, bizarre. Maybe they would add their hickory sauce if I had asked, but it never crossed my mind that it wouldn't come sauced. A note on the hickory sauce, it's quite good. The fries are good and the coleslaw was also good.
We looked up best burger in Newmarket and this place came up. We ended up getting the worst burgers we ever got; no toppings, unseasoned, and burned buns. The rest of the order wasn't that great either. We didn't get the baked bean. The price they charge definitely wasn't worth it.
The food is pretty good. Comparable with most good barbecue places in the GTA. Definitely a tier below Adamson's barbecue - like all other barbecue places in the GTA. Starting with the good, the ribs were tasty and and cooked to proper tenderness. It is served with two types of sauces. The chicken wings are really good, better than most places that serve wings. The pulled pork is good, but hard to not do a good pulled pork. The chicken quesadillas is pretty good, lots of chicken. The bad, the brisket was inedible. It was way too tough. Overall, pricing is fair and portion sizes are good. I would definitely come back for the ribs and wings. 2
I got the brisket. I've never seen anything like this before. Maybe I'm spoiled from eating brisket in the south. Not my cup of tea. Pass on the fries, just frozen from bag. Coleslaw very tasty.
Great surprise!!!! As my son said, "I don't understand why people go to places like McDonald's, the little corner places are always better". And this one is definitely not the exception. Not the best restaurant layout or decor, even though the photos on the walls are beautiful. But this place doesn't need to be known for it. The most important thing is the food! Really excellent food. We had two hamburgers and one peameal bacon sandwich. They were both delicious but I have to say that the peameal sandwich was the best of all. We got it paired with a fried egg and mayo. It tasted like heaven!!! The egg and the mayo enhanced the flavor of the peameal bacon and made it the best item of all. The hamburger was better than most hamburgers you can get. The beef was well seasoned and the condiments were fresh as they are supposed to be. Perfect size for a burguer and a sandwich big. We also had some nice crunchy fries and some chicken wings. The wings were not the best wings ever but they were good. Prices seem good until you start adding condiments cheese, bacon and such to the burgers and sandwiches, and the orders do not come as a combo with fries and drinks, they are all separate items in the menu. The final check was a bit higher than expected my personal impression. Not a problem anyway. I have to come back to try the pull pork and the ribs. The place is better known for those items as I understand. I would definitely come back!!!. Great food!!!!
Rick catered on our wedding this past Saturday and everything was fantastic! Rick was very responsive and went out of his way to make sure we had the right selections and quantities. He was flexible when we adjusted our attendance numbers and willing to help with staffing a bartender. He went above and beyond by coming by the day before to scope out the setup and even came by personally the day of to make sure the setup happened without any issues. All in all, Rick and his staff were amazing and so was the food! We had more than enough food for leftovers. Would highly recommend Rick’s Cookhouse for any event where you want a rustic vibe with tasty food and excellent service!
Dropped in based on a loose Google search. Was pleasantly surprised. Great food all around. Great people with a local born and bred business. Try the rib tips and onion rings. My son and I ate them on the way home, and have no regrets not sharing!! Will order extra next time
Had a takeout order on Feb 6 for an anniversary dins. When placing the order I casually mentioned the occasion. Got home to see a hand written note on the bags with a heart and message acknowledging the anniversary. Very sweet, thankyou! The ribs and mashed were so very tasty, baked beans and coleslaw enjoyed by a vegetarian , it was a hit. Made for a great finish to the happy day. 4 plus plus plus!
My wife and I had a great meal at Rick's Cookhouse. Never been there before but had a craving for BBQ! I ended up getting the Taster Combo for One which included 3 Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork, Coleslaw and Baked Beans. Everything was good! I especially liked the Pulled Pork! My wife had the half rack of ribs dinner. She thought it was very tasty. We both had a couple of cans of Coke products. The bill came out to be a little under $60 which was very reasonable for the amount of food that we ate. We actually brought some home. We will definitely come back. P.S. I would have given 5 stars but they don't have Corn Bread.
Fries are from the grocery store freezer. Very disappointing. Brisket has no flavour; pretty sure I saw them dump it out of a small plastic baggy into the pan. Tasted boiled and bland. Burger was dry. Pulled pork on the poutine was decent. Service was very good though. Very Friendly. But... Not enough to come back again.
