I was there for hotpot and was surprised by the selection of food even though we did not upgrade to the VIP price. We got the coconut chicken and tomato soup base, you can definitely taste the coconut in it which was surprising. Apart from the usual beef and pork slices they also have shrimp, mussels and lobster for regular price. Staff was super friendly and was not annoyed when I had to ask her to repeat multiple things she said as it was in Mandarin. Overall good experience
Good value if you can take advantage of the Monday - Friday early bird special. Sitting may not be comfortable for dim sum as they are mainly for hotpot at night but still manageable. I have no complaint for the price we paying. Will definitely be back to try bother dishes. Finally a good dim sum restaurant up in Newmarket. You may need to expect a wait for food.. I wonder if it was from frozen but they for sure get it hot and ready. Deep fried dishes are fresh and hot too.
Really want to like this place given the limited amount of chinese hotpot/bbq up in Newmarket/Aurora, but unfortunately the food and service here just wasn't it... Food took a while to arrive even tho they weren't too busy, and they totally forgot about our skewers - we had to remind them after nearly finishing the two dishes. The casserole and shrimp tasted decent, but portions were on the smaller end. The skewers were either tasteless or over seasoned, and had to wash it down with water after each bite, that's how salty they were. Definitely won't be returning nor recommending their bbq menu, but may try their hot pot or dim sum given the slightly better reviews...
Tried the new restaurant today, after hearing they sell Dim Sum. It's great to have a Dim Sum restaurant closer to home in Newmarket, than traveling to Richmond Hill or Markham. I've read a lot of the reviews good and bad, but my family had Zero issues with our order today. We thought the service was fantastic and our food came out hot and cooked! I thought the meats were well flavoured; my husband preferred the short ribs to have a different sauce, but he didn't mind it. The only thing I thought was a bit blan was the plain congee with dough fritter. Generally, for plain congee, I would think there would be some salt or chicken broth etc. to add a bit of flavour. I wasnt expecting it to be completely plain with rice/water lol. Perhaps it is served different at this restaurant, but now I know. The dough fritter was good, not to oily and cooked properly. Every thing else we ordered was good and we would visit again. We thought the portion size for the item were decent. It was a bit pricey, but we expected it with the cost of food these days, as well, there are no direct Dim Sum competitors in the area. We ordered 17 items for 2 adults and 2 small children and it cost us around $100. We did order a bit extra with intent to bring some food home. They had small, med, large, xl dishes. Costs ranged from $4.88, $6.88, $8.88 If I remember correctly and $2 per person for Tea. I read some other reviews from those stating the food is frozen, but I don't know if people realize that most Dim Sum places and other restaurants, their Har Kow and Siu Mai etc. come frozen the steamed to serve to customers. There are businesses / food manufacturers who make these and sell to restaurants. People in the food industry can relate to certain items sent to them come frozen. Since the restaurant is new, I would expect there being some hiccups with service and food for the first little bit. In our case, we had no issues. Anyways, overall, we had a great experience. We will try ordering other foods during lunch one day and try their hot pot dinner.
I am Chinese and I have some knowledge of most Chinese dishes, so I am proud to say this will be our go to for quick Chinese food fix. My husband and I had dinner there last night, ordered three dishes, snow pea leaves vegetable they called bean sprout so do not get mistaken, lamb casserole, and paper wrapped osmanthus fish with garlic. Everything was so yummy and flavourful. I will be back to try their AYCE hot pot and dim sum. I am so happy Newmarket is becoming a mini version of Markham/Richmondhill food central. ... we need more restaurants like this !!! Keep up with the good food and service.
We had supper here and enjoy the food very much. Great service. Will definitely be back for dim sum and hot pot.Food: 5/5
Finally, Authentic DIM SUM in Newmarket! Rain or Shine Restaurant in the No Frills Plaza at Davis and Yonge. They have Dim Sum in the morning, authentic Chinese dishes for lunch and AYCE Hotpot at night. They do have early cheap dim sum, so all S, M, L options are same price until 11. We've been there a couple of times and have been quite impressed, especially with their dim sum. The dishes come out hot and are quite delicious, definitely comparable to other restaurants in Markham. By the way, they have Har Gow shrimp dumpling dim sum on special right now for $2.99 per order, that's 4 Har Gow's for $3. Can't beat that. The staff there are friendly and we'll definitely go back. The restaurant is a bit hidden, it's beside Fabricland in the plaza. Highly recommend. Oh yeah, Lobster noodles for $13.99 and BBQ lamb skewers are $4.99 for 4, these are the other specials they have on right now. Took a picture of the flyer to share. Enjoy!
There seem to be some really polarized reviews on here. Some love it, some hate it. I can’t speak for others bad experiences but ours was great. As first time hot potters my family was treated to new experience that was super fun and tasty. The broths were really good, spicy broth was actually spicy, tomato had lots of flavor and slightly sweet and tangy. There are easily over 100 items to choose from to cook, with a wide variety of meats and seafoods. More veggies would have been a nice addition. Lobster was a very nice surprise maybe a weekend thing?. Overall worth a try, even just for the experience.
Went for dim sum at dinner time, and the food was really quite good although could’ve been served a little hotter. The owner was a super nice guy and the wait staff and he were both very attentive. Decent value for the money and will definitely go back. A bit of a hidden gem for Newmarket!
We tried all you can eat hot pot today. It was amazing. Everything is fresh and the hot pot soup is delicious! My daughter and my husband love it so much! We are glad that finally a nice hot pot place in Newmarket. We don’t need to go to Hwy7 all the time. The service is excellent too. The lady is so nice and helpful. Definitely come back next time.
