Step into cosy world ! Imagination coming alive in this quaint cafe ! Love the European area on the outside ! The books inside. The alleys give you a Harry Potter movie vibe! Love their not PB&J.
It’s a very cute place to stop at for a coffee, but the service is TERRIBLE if you’re coming here for drinks. My friends and I came in to try out their espresso martini flights. Unfortunately we were told they are seasonal, so we ordered a sangria flight instead. It took *30 MINUTES* to receive our sangria flight. And that was the only thing we had ordered at that point. The service was very disorganized; the server had to consult the front counter employee on whose drinks were whose and then she still got them mixed up constantly.nnWe also had to go up to the counter to order/pay and look at the one menu they had, which didn’t even have the sangria flights on it. She had to write the different flavours on a receipt. There was only one person working the counter and I had to wait a while for her to come back.nnThe benches at our table were pretty uncomfortable for a drinks evening, and they were much higher than the chairs making conversation a bit uncomfortable as we were at seated at very different heights.nnBathroom doors did not lock.nnI understand that it’s a cafe, so service will be different than a regular restaurant or bar. However, waiting 30 minutes for drinks is unacceptable anywhere. This is a great place to stop at for a coffee during the day, but I would look elsewhere for a drinks night place.
I met with a artist friend for a late night coffee and chat. We needed a new spot to discuss some new ideas for a collab we’re planning for. Let me tell you, we were very happy with this choice. Not only were the drinks and bagels delicious but the atmosphere really allowed for some great conversations and creativity to rise.nnThank you for creating a space that is also dog friendly - my doggo was very content the whole time we were there.nnI work near by and I have found my new spot for mochas *chef kiss* just delicious! I returned a second time and loved the little details on my mocha to go second picture.
Rhubarb tries to be a hip and fancy atmosphere but fails miserably with their cracked chairs and dirty tables.nnThe service is abhorrent. The front of house can’t even be bothered to smile or greet you. We tried to order the toast flight and the girl literally just walked away from the counter without so much as an acknowledgement to what we said to talk to her coworker for 5 mins before coming back and saying “we ran out.” There was no apology.nnThey took 20 minutes to make our coffee flight and we asked a staff if the drinks will be brought to us or if someone was bringing them to our table. The staff said that “we just have to see” and said that it’s either or very dismissively.nnThe drinks were disappointing and did not look as good as what influencers were posting online. The espresso martinis were messy and had cream everywhere and the coffee flight was literally lukewarm when we drank them.nnI can see what Rhubarb is trying to emulate and unfortunately, they did not deliver. Social media makes it seem better than it actually is. I will not be coming here again and would encourage others to patronize better cocktail bar cafes such as DOSC.
I’m not one to leave bad reviews, but this one and only experience coming here had to be told. I came in for a Flat white and a cheese bun which came to $14 and I tipped $2 and by the end of it I wish I had never came at all. I just want to start off with that fact that I waited patiently for 1 hour for my cheese bun. The Flat white came out in a timely manner. But the server who took my order forgot about it TWICE. And I had to go remind them about my bun and they apologized about it and I seen her put it in the oven but then proceeded to forget again and I waited another 30 min. So I went up and stood at the counter waiting for a server and I’m not sure if it was owner or manager who was working but she was sitting at one at the tables on her laptop the whole time I stood. And it was only then when a family came into the establishment that she decided to help me. She came to the counter and asked what I needed in a neutral manner and I told her nicely “I still never got the cheese bun I ordered” and she looks annoyingly and grabbed the semi burnt bun out of the oven and gave it to me on a plate and some utensils to spare. I ate it and it wasn’t bad but luckily I had the politeness to put my dishes on the counter before I left. As I walked out, I told myself to never return as that this was the first time I’ve ever felt segregated.
