Monument

Monument ~used~ to be my absolute FAVOURITE place to go! I loved their delicious pastries and food curated from local bakeries and restaurants - it felt like a tiny farmers market inside an upscale coffee shop...but that is nooooo longer :( The soup that was previously supplied by their neighbors at BLVD is now frozen Campbell’s soup (which we witnessed being defrosted and mixed by the staff). The pastries that used to be from places like Under the High Wheel and Block 1912 are now seemingly bulk ordered from somewhere cheap and taste lifeless. I don’t write this review to be mean, I was genuinely shook when I went back to such low quality and I very much miss the old Monument. I would just like to have a spark of the old charm back!!

Superb coffee. I can taste the difference from Tim's or Starbucks. Much smoother taste and flavorful. The breakfast cookie was also good. It was not sweet but had a great taste.

As a self proclaimed coffee snob, this is one of the best coffee shops in Edmonton. The staff are always incredibly friendly. It is also a great place to get work done.

I had a savoury pastie at Monument. It was served frozen on the inside. I asked for the pastie to be re-heated but it was again brought to me still frozen inside and now a little burned on the outside. The server seemed confused that the pastie was not heated all the way through. At this point I gave up. The food is too expensive to have it arrive under cooked. I just won't go back there again.

I work in the downtown core and I'm always excited to try new coffee shops. I liked this place because of the easily accessible Moonshine Donuts, however the actual hot drinks aren't great and the atmosphere inside leaves something to be desired. I've heard they might change things to essentially copy a more successful coffee shop down the street, but I'm not sure adding more over priced items will save this place.
