Red Rose Restaurant in Surrey

Our first time here and food was pretty good. They have a great mix of Italian, Greek and some Indian fusions dishes. I got the calamari and it was good...not the best I've ever had but pretty tasty. my mother in law got the veggie burger and said it was pretty good. some places don't carry a veggie burger and if they do it's often not good but theirs was good.

Service is hit and miss here. Sometimes good, sometimes terrible. We were there recently for a special event, so an 18% gratuity was added automatically. I understand that gratuities are added in certain contexts to prevent the servers from losing out if big tables don't tip, but 18% is excessive. It's particularly excessive when the service is DISMAL. My wife's food came out a half hour before she requested it and they just shrugged. She had to eat it cold, because she wasn't able to eat it when they brought it out (which is why we were very specific about that). None of our dishes were cleared over the course of 2 hours nor was water refilled. Then we asked about a discrepancy in the menu in which one item basically had two prices (it depends how you ordered it, but it's the exact same thing) and we were given a shrug and then charged the more expensive price. Paying a mandatory 18% gratuity for this crappy service is highway robbery.

Changed the Caesar salad. This restaurant has had a winning menu for as long as I can remember. Likely 10 years. The Caesar salad specifically was unique and the dressing was amazing! I used to go there just to satisfy my craving for the salad. I recently discovered that they have changed owners and the Caesar recipe changed. It's the typical store bought dressing that every restaurant has. I am incredibly disappointed. Willing to offer reward if someone can get me the recipe or send me to where I can get the old Caesar salad! It's my favorite! This place used to be 5 stars for me but I don't know if I'll ever go back. Old places like this shouldn't change menu staples. If it ain't broke - don't fix it!

Menu for this place is a mix of Greek, Indian, Italian, and North American. Food is good and good portions. Service is good and friendly. Although last time it seems they were under staffed and one of the servers had to go do a delivery. Not one of our go to places, mainly because it isn't all that close to where we are, but one of our options.
