Tucked away in a tranquil corner of the historic Hotel Julien Dubuque, Potosa Spa offers the perfect respite from the stressors of modern life. Inspired by a deep and authentic connection to nature and the history of our area, Potosa Spa’s peaceful setting and unparalleled services promote relaxation and restoration of the mind, body, and soul.

Shaped by Native American culture, specifically the Fox Medicine Wheel, therapies at Potosa Spa draw inspiration from the four directions: earth, air, water, and fire. The spa is named in honor of Potosa, daughter of the chief of the Fox Native American tribe which once inhabited this area. Legend has it she was also the wife of Julien Dubuque. Storytellers have called theirs “a great romance of the Old West.”

This spa is a very professional and comfortable place to be. They really know how to make sure you relax and enjoy your treatments. The very front of the spa is a little cramped and doesn't have quite the best feel, but once you actually get into the spa it is much more comfortable. They give you lots of space to change into your robe in the bathroom and they also give you a locker to fill with your stuff. Then they have an excellent waiting area where you can just relax and enjoy the warmth of the room and the carefully contoured lounge seats. The whole experience is excellent and there does not seem to be any rush to leave. They really do a great job. My wife and I did a couple's massage here and so far this has been our favorite place. We really liked that it felt so luxurious and that there was not rush to leave the comfortable waiting area after the massage.

I absolutely love it here best place hands down; I had a maternity massage with my second child here and am planning another maternity massage with my 3rd very soon! I've also taken family members here as a gift and they enjoyed it as well!

Gave this as a gift to a friend and she said she had a horrible experience. Andrea didn't listen to what she wanted and spent the whole time talking about her break-up. Then after my friend repeatedly told her she doesn't like her face massaged Andrea starts tapping on her face with her finger. My friend also said the bathtub was small and uncomfortable. The only positive she said was the robe. Don't waste your money.

I visited while staying at the Julien and got a pedicure for a wedding the next weekend. The staff were all very welcoming and kind. The relaxation room was awesome. My technician was very friendly. However, 2 days after getting the pedicure, the top coat and color began to wear off and chip with normal daily activities which was disappointing.

Facial, massage, and pedicure were good--disappointed that the color on my pedicure was done on Saturday and severely chipped and gone completely by Tuesday.  I've never had an issue with it needing to be redone so quickly.
