Best Mexican Food closest to my house & job so it's a great choice for lunch and dinner. I came here on an hour lunch and got my food with 10 minutes and was able to enjoy the rest of my break. The sense of urgency at this establishment is phenomenal. The waitress’ here are super sweet and make coming here so pleasant. The food is always fresh and hot! The carne asada street style tacos are very delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.
I went to Playa Bonita for the first time yesterday. I don't eat Mexican food much, though I do like it very much. Being new to the area, I haven't been to many Mexican restaurants; only La hacienda and taco time. I can say for certain that Playa Bonita is the best Mexican food restaurant I've been to comparable to my favorite Mexican spot back home in Boston! The restaurant was colorful and bright, a huge building right in the heart of Arlington. Nice and clean table, bathrooms, etc. I loved how we got beans in addition to chips and salsa; that was a first for me. The waitress was patient listening to our orders and made sure my grandma's vegetarian taco salad was exactly as it was ordered. I got the three enchiladas with extra cheese and the portion was huge! Very delicious and cheesy. Everyone else loved their food, and the flour tortillas they gave my wife were soft, hot, and fresh. We also got the electric watermelon drink which was yummy. This will definitely be our go to Mexican spot from now on! I look forward to trying out some other menu items that caught my eye!
3.5 For $21.99 their Pork Carnitas plate was okay. Not bad but not great either. It was loaded with too much onions in the pork dish. If their intention was to cheat to make it look fuller then it actually ruined the experience.
When travelling to American, a Mexican meal is a must, and Playa Bonita did not disappoint me. I am travelling with a group of 7 and we all love the food. We ordered Fajitas, beef carnitas, camarones monterrey, shrimp tacos and a shrimp cocktail things that I don’t remember the name, but all dishes are delicious and well cooked. If you like desserts, I think their Churros are the best!
-Pleasantly surprised at the flavors of our dishes, and the amount, my God! My wife received the largest Burrito I've EVER seen served at ANY Restaurant she said the same, and she's a former bartender & restaurant server/manager of several bars & restaurants, their Deluxe Burrito. She got to bring home half of it & get a second meal out of it. AHHH! Leftovers! Look-Out Paraisos! in Smokey Point. Our guest had the #25 I think, a burrito & an enchilada combo, which was equally Huge & he enjoyed. My Spicy Shrimp Salad featured on a menu insert was great, tho could've been bigger & contain a bit more Other Vegetables replacing some of the iceberg lettuce, just to go with that former theme. Edit:Oh, and watch out for the pico that comes with the chips, it's HOT! I'm a pepper-head, so I loves me some Heat, but this stuff is ON FIRE! *or maybe I was just overly sensitive on this day, which has happened before. -This place is located in the old Rome Pizza House building from when I went to high-school here 30-some years ago, Yes, this dates me!, in historic downtown Arlington. Just North of the also historic Crosswalk Tavern, tho, now spelled 'Krosswalk'. -For This review, I've removed One for this reason only. A couple years ago my wife & I walked the length of the town and then some!, Hospital to Haller, and stopped in here to see if she could use their restroom. It was during daylight hours, we were respectably dressed & they were not busy. We both felt as though they were standoffish & suspicious of us. I don't know if there had recently been some unwanted 'occurrence' or something... or perhaps it was just due to the language barrier, but we BOTH felt an uncomfortable resistance to our request. *Being an Empath, she is quite sensitive to these things, where I usually Don't even notice them, but this was blatant! Though they did let her use their restroom after suspiciously eyeing us up & down, I never thought I'd be made to feel this uncomfortable in my own hometown not that they'd know that, I swore I'd not return. -That being said, I'm glad we gave it a 2nd chance! We'll most assuredly return. Vegetarian options: I think they had SOME Veg. options. Kid-friendliness: They DO have a Kids Menu. Parking: Seems to be Plenty of Parking, if the lot behind the building is still available, as it was 30-some years ago, + street. Wheelchair accessibility: The place IS Wheelchair Accessible
This is for the Arlington, WA location only. Overall: Can't recommend the food. Chips, salsa, bean dip: chips were fine, nothing to take notice of, salsa could have been better, spicy but lacking flavor at the same time, bean dip was only there to counter the very small size of the salsa bowl, nothing noticeable about the dip. I ordered the Tres Amigos, which for some reason was under Beef on the menu, even though part of the dish was pork. Chili Colorado: beef in red sauce the beef cubes tasted like good beef, the "red" sauce was very thin and didn't add much flavor. Chili Verde: pork in green sauce unfortunately the same, pork was there and tender, sauce was water thin, pooled on the serving plate and didn't add any flavor. Chili Relleno: after the first two Amigos lacking flavor, the Relleno was good, by itself it would not have been great. Rice and beans: standard middle of the road, nothing to get excited about. Had a ground beef taco crunchy on the side, separate plate, the taco was better than the Verde and the Colorado, not better than the Relleno. Dessert: Here's where the meal failed completely. I asked for the Creme Brulee Cheesecake: combine crunchy melted burnt carmel sauce ontop of cheesecake, sounds like an interesting combination of two desserts? unfortunately what was brought to my table was a piece of something that looked like cheesecake drizzled with carmel sauce and some sauce at the bottom of the cake. There hadn't even been a match burned next to the top of the cake, let alone a chef's torch to make any of the carmel solid. So I can't say if it was cheesecake because I didn't have a single bite. When I asked the server if they could take it back and have it torched they said it would "melt". The Creme Brulee Cheesecake on the Dessert Menu is a lie, be cautious of any other dessert on the menu, they might be incorrectly described as well. I wasn't feeling like finding out if any other dessert was also falsely described, so I can't say anything for sure about any other dessert. The description from the owner on the website is very sincere and sounds like they really want to serve great food. The owner and head chef need taste the top 20 menu items and then retrain all the cooks to be able to make the truly excellent food that the owners description invites guests to enjoy. The other Mexican restaurant in Historic downtown Arlington is currently much better all around.
Food and service is always great here! It's the best food in town, we have been coming here for year and have never had bad service or bad food. Always a good value for the price!!Food: 5/5
Always a great, friendly place to eat out. I personally choose Playa Bonita over other Mexican restaurants in the area, due mostly to its friendly staff and great food! I would recommend Playa over the rest in the area. Parking: Large parking lot next to and behind building. Or find street parking. I've never had to walk very far from where I parked.
Absolutely wonderful!! One of the best dinners we have shared with the family. Went at the spare of the moment and got a table right away. They took great care of us.
Horrible customer service. I had to argue with the manager in person, after talking on the phone with a server for 20 minutes and being told I had to drive back in to the restaurant for a refund. Our to go order was missing an item and had melted whipped cream all over all the food, from our sopapillas, in the containers through the paper tops, there was curdled cream in my daughters rice and beans so she couldnt eat them. The manager argued with me and didnt give me my refund until I said I could send my husband in instead of me to collect it from him.
