As a big fan of animals, it makes me sad to see them in captivity, especially when they seem anxious. That’s why I’m writing this review, hoping someone will take notice.nnI understand that running a pet store is a business, but the comfort of the animals should be a priority. Birds should not be kept in small cages or on the floor, as this causes them stress. I appreciate that in your store, people cannot touch the birds, which is better than many other pet stores. I also want to thank you for not clipping the birds’ feathers, as their ability to fly is so important for their happiness.nnHowever, I noticed that many bird cages are too small and crowded. Birds need more space to move around, and their cages should be kept off the ground. When birds are on the floor, they can feel scared and stressed.nnPlease treat the animals with respect. Keep them in spacious areas, and don’t allow visitors to touch them or let kids play with them. I also saw dirty water and food in cages, always mixed with bird droppings. Please replace their water regularly and provide clean food.nnReptiles, amphibians, and fish also need more space. Just because they can’t express it like other animals doesn’t mean they don’t feel stressed.nnKeeping betta fish fighter fish in small containers for a long time is cruel; they deserve larger, clean homes. It’s so so so sad to see them suffering in small containers.nnI hope someone will consider these concerns and improve the care for the animals in your store. Thank you.
Sad, sad, so very sad.nnAs a pet store, you guys should know that keeping bettas this way is unacceptable and outdated. The argument that “they’ll live” is not even supportable in this case, because look.. I found countless 10+ dead bettas in these torturous containers. And the ones that were still alive look miserable. I wanted to buy them all just to take them away from this business, but I know that would just support their horrible habits, and they’ll just get more.nnYou guys are doing so wrong by these poor fish, not to mention misinforming the public that they’ll be ok in these conditions.nnI understand this is not location-based. This is PetSmart as a whole refusing to provide their retail stores with adequate housing for the fish they clearly only see as products. The employee who collected the fish after I was seen taking photos seemed disheartened by the situation as well.nnYou charge $20/piece for some of these fancy bettas that are miserable and likely in poor health, while you’re discarding hundreds of dollars worth of these poor fish because you refuse to provide them with adequate housing, and overall quality of life.nnPetSmart needs to do betta.
I've been taking my rough collie/sheltie mix here since he's been 8 months old or so for grooming a few times a year and for nail clipping. Everytime I bring him, he's more than happy to enter the store on his own.. and he's a skittish dog! The groomers have always done a great job with him and I've always been more than happy when I pick him up. He has always not liked his feet being touched.. he would not even let me attempt to cut his nails. He'd actually try to bite me/send signals he did NOT want you going near his nails. I didn't know what to do so I took him to Petsmart to see if they could do it... and they could! I've taken him multiple times now... and everytime they tell me they're able to trim his nails no problem. I'm amazed, seriously. I recently purchased my own nail grinder... and I decided to see if he'd let me do it at home no way was he letting me near him with a grinder or clippers before I started taking him to Petsmart Amazingly... with a little pacing around... he actually let me touch the grinder to his nails. AMAZING.nnI chalk this up to him experiencing Petsmart staff doing this to him... and he realized it isn't so bad. The staff there obviously are great with dogs because my dog would be the first to show signs of anxiety and there's no way I'd be getting him to go back to the store repeatedly if he didn't like the staff/if they were rough with him etc.nnDon't believe the bad reviews for petsmart at least the Winnipeg Kenaston location. They've always been great to my dog and I'm always extremely happy with my pups results. Only place I plan on taking him to for grooming and nail trims! Keep up the great work guys! So happy you guys exist to pretty my pup up - and for GREAT pricing on top of it! :
Staff helped me pick all the supplies for our new rescue kitten. They took the time to show me what was recommended and their member program, to help me save money. Will definitely be back!!
Back in November 2024, after an abysmal experience at Petland, I took my pup to PetSmart to see if the customer service was any better, and it was not. At the time, my puppy needed a bed, collar, leash, and a laundry list of other items. The staff saw us but didn't acknowledge or offer any assistance, so we left after 20 minutes.nnA quick drive to the Pet Valu in Charleswood and Tuxedo filled our needs then and has continued to do so. Maintaining a large German Shepherd X and four cats isn't cheap, and we're happy to give our business to them. :
