IT'S THREE FOR THREE! Today we made our third visit to Westwood and I'm still coming away ever so impressed. From the moment we walked through the doors until the moment we walked back out again my husband and I, and our kitty Merlin, encountered nothing but warmth, respect and caring from the entire staff. Again, Merlin was visiting Westwood to follow-up on another condition he has had for several years. I assumed Dr. Doucette would want his own x-rays, but he simply made an examination, looked at the old x-ray I had brought to compare it to what he could physically feel in Merlin's leg, then dispensed a medication to make him more comfortable. As pensioners, we appreciate that we have not had to pay for a battery of x-rays and/or tests as a result of having had to switch to a new veterinary hospital. The time for that will likely come—our cats are 16 and 21—but I definitely believe that the priority at Westwood Hills is the patient and not the pocketbook. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this wonderful clinic. PREVIOUS POST: SO, I GUESS IT'S OFFICIAL, WE HAVE A NEW VET! 21-year-old Carley went in a couple of days ago to meet Dr. Doucette, because I think it's important for critters—as well as their humans—to meet a new doctor before issues arise, just to establish a benchmark and to ensure they are compatible. Although she is deaf, Carley is in fine shape for her age; she sleeps A LOT, but she still manages to rule the roost and keep us all in line. She is able to scramble over the baby gate that is intended to keep her out of the living room overnight, and regularly jumps up onto and down off of the desks in our home office, and this is how I wanted the folks at Westwood to meet her. Dr. Doucette and his assistants did an examination, including taking her blood pressure—something none of my cats have ever before experienced—and some bloodwork. He confirmed something we had already suspected: that Carley has very little vision left. The bloodwork ruled out any suspected diabetes and thyroid issues, but did show there is "stuff" going on with her kidneys. I came away with a prescription, and some guidance on how to support a cat who has no hearing and very little vision, and a lighter pocketbook. Carley came away with her dignity and freshly-clipped toenails. Win-win. I should mention here that I am very impressed with the fact that both times we entered the clinic, we were whisked away to an exam room—no sitting in a waiting room filled with dogs and strangers poking fingers into carriers. I don't know if this is Westwood's usual practice, or if it is a Covid thing, but I like it. Today I received a phone call, just to check on how Carley is making out with her new meds and to see if we had any questions. I requested a copy of the test results and they were emailed to me while we were still on the phone. There is a lot to really like about this place. ORIGINAL POST: I have to admit that my 15-year-old cat, Merlin, is a brand-new patient at Westwood, so we have been there only one time so far, but I think we're off to a great start. When I spoke with Taylor to make an appointment, surprisingly she had an opening that very day. Merlin is a long-time allergy sufferer and I expected to have to go through the full gamut of tests before they would treat him, but no, making him comfortable was more important. After reading his chart from our previous vet, and a bit of an examination, Dr. Rob Doucette gave him his depo shot without delay. At the same time, it was discovered that he had an ear infection and we came away with a prescription. The clinic is bright and clean and the staff are very friendly. Dr. Doucette was kind and informative with us, and dealt with Merlin in a caring and respectful manner. I can't ask for more than that. I will be making an appointment for 21-year-old Carley to visit soon and if this turns out to be the usual standard of care at Westwood, then I guess we have a new doctor!
We have been bringing our pets here for 14 years and are very happy with the service we have gotten. The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful. Our regular vet, Rob Doucette, is a gem. Always very compassionate with our kids. Especially when we lost Sailor just over a year ago. The vet assistants have always been great too. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this practice.
Great clinic! Dr. Hare is amazing. Thorough and really focused on our dog's health and wellbeing as well as providing insight into animals. The whole team at PetFocus Westwood Hills is the best!
Very low stress appointment,- physical exam, nail trimming and blood sample taking - for our 7 year old Great Pyrenees. Vet and technician offered lots of useful information as well about problems like bloat. Our primary "goto resource" for a healthy poochess!
Got charged nearly $700 for my cat and the best answer they could give is "maybe he's allergic to something" no solution. No answers. Just a $700 hail mary. Never again.
