Best vegan high tea experience you can find! Beautiful building and environment inside, classic stunning building. The tea was so good, but the food was absolutely delicious. I was worried I wouldn’t find a vegan high tea that wasn’t just random veggies/fruit, and this did not disappoint. I enjoyed every piece of it, and found it creative, high quality, and filling! Also prices were very good for a high tea — especially a vegan high tea. Diverse sandwiches, delicious scones, and divine treats. We had a beautiful spot facing the window over the water. A total must, especially for vegans/vegetarians! Super romantic or intimate!
Old fashion charm in a beautiful setting. It’s a great place to have English High Tea overall… but some tips are helpful. When in Victoria, one of the things to do is have High Tea. You can pay exorbitant rates for the classic atmosphere at the Empress, or try a place like the Pendray with a nice historical feel and tasty menu items for a bit less. They price things out in the menu around $62 -$68 per person, but with 4 people you can order 2 “servings / trays” as they request you try to achieve the unwritten rule of $30 per person minimum. The quality of the items in the trays we ordered were mostly good, and some were excellent. But not worth what we paid as we got such small portions. Look at the picture of the one 3 tier tray of food we got with two pots of tea for over $190 with tax and tip included. The amount paid, or quality of food is not the issue. Just know that this is an expensive snack, not a meal. The outside gardens were in great shape. Inside was well kept for a building around a hundred years old. But no ramp to the restaurant that I saw, and lots of stairs that could make it not accessible to some. The staff were friendly and since it was not busy it was relatively quiet especially since we made a reservation ahead of time asking about the best times to be there. They seem like an equal opportunity employer. We had an issue with the Shirley Temple. It is suppose to be a kids drink with regular Ginger-ale, & Grenadine. Some restaurants sub in Sprite or 7UP and sometimes add in orange juice so it is a bit more tasty for kids. Be careful as the Pendray makes it with an old fashion ginger mix, soda and a hint of grenadine for colour. It was not sweet, and is not what we’re were used to. It is not what kids are expecting. We had a good experience overall. For you, with a bit of knowledge ahead of time I highly recommend the Pendray Tea House.
There’s a reason why I have this place permanently labeled on my maps: it is by-far the best tea room in the Victoria Inner Harbor, if not the whole city. Compared to other tea rooms in the area, this one takes the tea cake! The atmosphere, staff, quality of food and the price are top-notch. For those coming in from a ferry or seaplane, it is a short walk from the terminals and well worth it. Forget the Empress, this place puts it to shame. Perfect for a day-trip stop, a friendly get-together, or a date. Get a reservation and ask when the busy-time is in hopes to avoid it. Having the opportunity to speak with staff and hear their recommendations is best.
The afternoon tea here is amazing! The front staff were very helpful and really nice too. The food is fantastic and they have a great selection of tea as well. I do wish that they had an online booking for the restaurant, and when I contacted the email provided there for the restaurant I was given a curt response to reach out to the email below but there wasn’t one included in the email. Thankfully we were able to come in in the morning and get a table for that afternoon so it all worked out! :
My wife absolutely loves this place! A step back in time in an authentic Victorian mansion with rooms that overlook Victoria's inner harbour. It is mere steps from the Parliament buildings and the Empress Hotel yet tucked away and quiet. Each room has been immaculately restored to its 1800s splendor. Included in our stay was a delicious, British High Tea styled, breakfast tier which was served in their beautiful dining room or on the surrounding veranda. Our stay here changed our "nice" vacation into a delightfully memorable one.
Wonderful afternoon tea in a historical building. The scones are amazingly fluffy and a great selection of teas. Service was impeccable and quality of food was excellent. Only reason atmosphere was not 5/5 is because it can get noisy in there once it fills up. Nothing else is wrong! Vegetarian options: For vegan option afternoon tea you must provide at least 24 hours notice Dietary restrictions: For those with dietary restrictions you must provide at least 24 hours notice
I went here for my birthday a while back with a few friends and it was amazing! It's an experience I suggest everyone do. The food was good, the servers were very kind. I did find the room we were in to be quite cold though. There tea selection is amazing, there's so much to choose from. I personally went with the Singapore one. Would recommend to anyone only downside was that it was quite expensive but for the experience and service I'd say it's worth it. Vegetarian options: The vegetarian options were pretty good and the staff were willing to change/switch some things around for my allergies which was amazing!
We came across this place by total accident when we pulled over in front of the B&B and saw they offered a vegan high tea in addition to conventional high tea, which was perfect for my wife a vegan tea fanatic. 24hr notice required for the vegan high tea. Although the idea of high tea is not quite my cup of tea, the experience was well worth it. Delicious mix of savoury & sweet canapes, scones and desserts paired with your choice of dozens of teas. The service from staff was impeccable. Well worth a visit, and earn some brownie points from your partner if they are into this kind of experience.
Great location right in front of the clipper ferry terminal. Quaint and cute accommodation. We stayed here three nights. Breakfast was included and they were served on high tea style tier set. Warm and comfortable room. We had two bikes and they let us park it in the basement covered parking lot. Food: 5/5
We had their winter afternoon tea and vegan afternoon tea and both were very really delicious especially the cream puffs and scones. They were able to easily accommodate dietary restrictions and the teahouse itself was a very beautiful space with nice water views. Highly recommend.
