Wow! We had a great experience and the one lady show made it all happen. When we got there we noticed two tables with customers, one customer waiting for take out and some tables that customers just finished and left. As the lady was cooking she quickly turned around and asked if we made reservations we told her no. She said sorry no tables available, if you want to eat here you will have to wait as she had a lot of orders to fill and to sit at the waiting area. Since there was only one seat I stood and looked at the menu. It seemed pricey and the menu items seemed very familiar to a place I used to go to in Richmond called Bob's sub. She kept looking back at me standing so she stepped out of the kitchen and cleaned off the table and offered it to us. She apologized that she was really busy and we would have to wait a bit. We then figured out she was doing everything herself...cuttkng fresh veggies, cooking, taking orders over the phone...etc. When she finished a couple order she came over quickly to take our orders. We ordered the 12 inch super sub and the Ukrainian sausage breakfast. When she brought our food talked with us a bit, apologized again and was stepping up the service. I think she even gave me some fries and onion rings with my sub. I don't recall it being part of the super sub on the menu. Food was perfect diner food. We finished all of it and it hit the spot. I will ask if they had any connection to Bob's sub in Richmond. Oh yes the sub was pricey but I thought it was worth it.
We were welcomed like we are visiting our own family. The owner lady is so sweet and warm, reminded me my grandma. We enjoyed our time here, will definitely come back. This place is cash only, so remember to bring cash or there is also a ATM at the gas station right next door.
Quintessential ma and pa shop with the sweetest lady who does it all. The decor is really dated but otherwise spacious. I got the double bacon cheese steak sub and my wife got the BLT and both were quite tasty and filling. The price is a bit higher compared to some places but it hits the spot and there are so many options available! Overall first impression was very good so we'll be doing back to try the other foods again soon.
My family has been coming to Paul's for 30+years. And it's always been a treat to visit their shop, even as a child. Mama is so welcoming and caring and sweet. And the subs, out of this world. The steak and pepperoni is hands down the most amazing one. Definitely have tried most of the sandwiches and breakfast but the subs keep us all coming back!
As all the reviews state - it is quite a little and local hidden gem in Burnaby! It’s a very humble spot that has a lot of take out and dine in regulars there are around 6 tables most seating 4. This place is CASH ONLY. The owner is direct but sweet - total grandma vibes with a lot of experience and wisdom in her demeanour and cooking. We tried the subs 6” Paul’s special capicola and steak and the 12” bacon double cheesesteak. Keep in mind she runs this shop alone and she is sure to let you know this isn’t a “fast food joint” as someone else came in and said they could dine in quick and she corrected him to say it’s not quick. Even if it looks like there are not many dining in - she could have a bunch of take out orders queued up. Looking at the other table - their breakfast looked so good so I will definitely want to try that next! My only gripe is the price … she mentioned everything on the board is an additional 2$ as she hasn’t gotten around to updating the menu as costs rise which is fair but for our two sandwiches plus tax and tip it ran us $60+. We were full and happy, don’t get me wrong, it’s just a larger bill than thought. I wish the sandwiches came with fries or chips - just something else to cut the bread and meat.
Went for some after hockey Sandwiches. This place did not disappoint. The sandwich to the right is big, the sandwich on the left was huge. Will be going back very soon. The owners were lovely aswell.Food: 5/5
Delightful place, the owner is a very charismatic old lady and she is a one person show running the place. We walked in around 1.30 PM and got a table easily. Ordered a chicken sub and she made it with perfection. The onions and mushrooms in the sub were fantastic. The owner was so nice and had a lot of stories to tell. She even offered that we can pay later as the establishment was cash only. Great food and service plus its nice to see that the money you are spending goes directly to the owner of the place. Will visit again for sure and next time will try breakfast.
What a selection of sandwiches to eat! Tons of sandwiches, burgers and breakfast option. I got a 6' Paul's Special and I feel like I'm good for a few days, it was so filling. The pricing might seem a bit much, the portion size are nuts. Only get a 12' if you really, really ... Really hungry! The lady making the sandwiches is also very lovely
The oldschool style subs are so good. I usually get the pauls super sub. It is on the pricey side but for me well worth it.Food: 5/5
The food was vey delicious. We ordered around the kitchen and mom’s special omelet with Ukrainian sausage, both very delicious. The portions were generous. However, it’s not a great place for large groups. You should not be more than 4 people because the lady was not able to manage more than that. She gets nervous and angry . Not very friendly with large groups.
