I recently attended the Family Court counter at the Newmarket courthouse and had a very disappointing interaction with a clerk named K. Bhatia.nnIndividuals attending Family Court are often navigating extremely sensitive and stressful circumstances — divorce, parenting disputes, financial hardship, domestic conflict, and emotional trauma. Many people are also self-represented and trying to understand the court process for the first time.nnUnfortunately, the manner in which I was spoken to was rude, dismissive, and unnecessarily harsh. Rather than providing guidance or basic courtesy, the interaction felt confrontational and unprofessional. Being spoken to in that way while already under stress was very discouraging.nnCourt staff play an important role in helping the public access the justice system. Professionalism, patience, and compassion are essential in an environment where people are often vulnerable and trying their best to follow complex procedures.nnI also noticed that several other Google reviews mention similar experiences regarding professionalism at this location. It raises the question of whether there is adequate oversight or training in place for staff working at the Family Court counter.nnMy hope in sharing this review is that management takes these concerns seriously and ensures that members of the public are treated with basic respect when accessing court services.

I came to file a family law document and was told by the person at the counter that I could not file it, despite my lawyer having clearly advised that I could. The information provided was incorrect and caused unnecessary confusion and delay.nnIt was frustrating to receive conflicting guidance, especially in a family law matter where accuracy is critical. Staff training and consistency around filing procedures clearly need improvement.nnThey are closed between 11am-2pm for lunch

Incredibly slow and inefficient with family cases. 3rd world country. Update: Superior court of justice in Newmarket is the most dysfunctional family court and extremely slow authority I ever faced in my life. 1 year passed since applying for consented divorce and still no divorce order issued by the court! After 12 months! Why do we support that misirable Canadian authority?! Shame on you!

I requested my court document almost for a month. But the court clerk keeps saying there is the backlog. Even my request is being marked urgent. Can someone tell me why court house staff processes the document too slow?

If there were a way to give zero, i would. How in 2025 we had to wait 2 hours to file documents?! Such a high level of bureaucracy. They need a reformation.
