I LOVE THIS PLACE. Amazing staff, even better bread, sandwiches are fresh and tasty, tons of deserts to choose from, pizza is great, coffee could be a tiny bit better but it still is good. Love the seating, super cute inside and the staff is very sweet. I would highly suggest this place to anyone, maybe come earlier because they do sell out of their sandwiches. To the owners, I really hope you go back to making custom sandwiches it would really elevate the experience. Check this place out any time of the day for any meal and you will not regret it.
Four stars, but if I could I would rate the experience 3.5! Decor is nice and the pastries are very good, also based on a previous visit. We decided to have lunch today, however my partner and I had totally different experiences. My ham and cheese croissant was really nice; the wife's housemeat pizza was all about dough and very little substance. We will definitely come back for the baked goods.
What a cute very hidden cafe ! I never knew it was there until I saw a post about it ! Now I want to keep coming back ! The coffee warm and cold tasted amazing ! The customer service was very friendly. The two ladies working were so sweet and answered any questions I had. The food was also super tasty. I would say though that the sandwiches that go for about 8$ had barely anything in them. So I think it’s a bit over priced for not having enough ingredients. My friend had the Prosciutto sandwich which only had meat and cheese in it. They should try adding some more spreads, lettuce , and veggies to make it more worth your while. Otherwise I had the breakfast sandwich which was around 6$ and it was very delicious. The atmosphere is so cute with the old fashion house chairs and lamps, it really creates a calming vibe. I believe the business is also attached to the actual bakery where they make their breads fresh but I could be wrong. Either way it’s a lovely cafe with lots to choose from. The service is fantastic so I would highly recommend checking this place out for fresh bread and pastries.
Came here early Sept after hearing all the great reviews. I did have high expectations and was really excited to have some great French bread and pastries. Unfortunately, I think I set my expectations too high and I was disappointed. Service was great. However, bread was not light and did not have a crispy shell as you would get in France. It wasn’t fresh and if it was I would have expected it to be a little bit crispy and not rubbery like. I know I could of had it toasted but I didn’t think I had to. Instead the baguette was no more better than your local supermarket i.e nothing special. The filling for the sandwich was on the lean side with only one slice of meat. I was expecting more as it seems normal for most sellers of sandwiches to have a lot of filling. Given price and the quality of the bread it was not worth with. The pastry I had was a St Michel Pear. I didn’t get much pears and the filling was quite dry. I wasn’t too sure if it was normal to not have a lot of pears. I probably counted approx 6 pieces and they were a size of a quarter of a grape. I really wanted to like this place. I did like the relax environment and setting. The decor was nice. Unfortunately the quality of the food was not to my expectation. You may like it but for me I doubt it if I come again.
TL;DR: Bad service and worse bread led to a miserable experience. Skip this place. This review is going to rapidly devolve, so let's start with the best of Olivier's: the space is beautiful. The early morning sunlight was shooting in through the flour dust riding the air, giving a cathedral-like atmosphere to the cavernous bakery and display cases. Sadly, everything else went horribly wrong, but I did want to take a moment to point out how beautiful the space was and how pretty the filled display cases looked. Even the industrial sounds of bread being made on a large scale were somewhat musical, if loud. I arrived at Olivier's soon after it opened in the hopes of ensuring that whatever I ordered would be fresh and exactly as the baker would want it to be enjoyed. I asked to see a 400g loaf of rye and a 400g loaf of sourdough; asked to buy a 400g Parisian baguette, and a jambon beurre on their website as "Sandwich, Paris". Sadly, of the breads, they had only the Parisian baguette in front. The employee kindly checked in the back for me and brought out... two 800g sourdough loaves. I said "no-thank you" and asked for just the baguette and the "Normandie" sandwich Camembert & prosciutto on a batard. The employee then proceeded to ring me up for my purchase, and the price seemed rather high. She had added in one of the sourdough loaves I specifically said I didn't want. And then she proceeded to put mayonnaise and cheap yellow mustard on my Normandie. Not at all the simple butter and ham I was hoping for. As one might imagine, cheap yellow vinegar-forward mustard doesn't go well with Camembert and prosciutto. More disappointing, though, was the tough and chewy bread. All I could really taste was the mustard, but the texture of the loaf was off and the color was pale. After finishing the Normandie, I rinsed my mouth out with water and tried the plastic-bagged baguette. Tough. Rubbery. Flavorless. Odorless. In no way was this a fresh Parisian baguette. At a guess, the yeast used was no older than three or four hours despite the website claiming slow fermentation. If this was a preferment, starter, or poolish it definitely did NOT taste or smell like it. The crumb contained large beautiful pockets indicative of high hydration, but my guess is the dough was seriously overworked by a machine given how tough it was to pull apart. The bottom of the baguette hadn't gotten much spring in the oven, so the crumb at the top of the bread was thin and at the bottom too thick. Sadly, the baguette had a rubbery exterior as well, likely from the plastic bag. Finally, I tried the sourdough. It had many of the same fundamental problems as the baguette. First, and foremost, this was in no way a flavorful sourdough. There was no sour taste, there was no joyous aroma, there was no flavor, and the salt may have been off too. There was nothing to love about this loaf. And then they pre-sliced it and stuck it in a plastic bag while still warm, letting it steam. I ended up giving it to a neighbor. Honestly, the bread was so bad I'll never be back to try out their pastries, which might be delicious assuming the pastry chefs are better than the bakers. But as to Olivier's breads, they had no flavor or aroma and no, I don't have covid and were ruined by other baking mistakes. At least the bakery was pretty.
We visited Oliver’s bakery and café on a quiet Saturday afternoon. The display case was absolutely full of delicious looking desserts and breads. We had a hard time choosing what to get! The café attendants offered fast, efficient, friendly customer service. After ordering there is ample seating to enjoy your hot coffee and dessert. We are very pleased with the quality of service and products here. We absolutely will be back.
Bonjour mon amies is the greeting you'll receive from one of the friendliest and happiest young ladies around! A previous baker, she's now in the front and what a delight is she?! This little cafe is tucked away in the industrial area of Maillardville, near the Fraser River. What a gem. The smell of baking bread will draw you in. A variety of bevvys, baguettes, and bakery delicacies that would fit anyone's palette. Sit inside or out. Free parking, accessible. I'll definitely go back. Merci!
This is a new found favourite!! I had the sausage breakfast sandwich and it was so so good!! A bit spicy and salty, I'm on a high sodium diet so it was great for me!! Creamy, cheesy and flavourful on a great loaf of sourdough! I had to try a couple pastries. First was the raspberry St. Michel. I have never had one of these before! It's like a muffin and a cookie had a baby and there's raspberry filling!! So good!! I also had the Amandine tart with blueberries, so delicious!! Not too sweet, a great little dessert. For my coffee I tried their salted caramel latte and oh my goodness it was so good. Not at all sweet, almost like a regular coffee with hints of caramel and salt much nicer than the big chain's! I will be back, they have so many delicious pastries!!!
The absolute BEST hidden gem for french sandwhiches, pastry, and bread. Forget about PAUL on Robson, I go out of my way to this bakery for thier amazing food. Get the Bayonne Sandwhich and you will be blown away by the high quality ingredients, PERFECT bread, and insanely affordable price. 7 dollars for the best sandwhich I've ever tasted is amazing. Go during thier breakfast or lunch times for even better deals. Also, thier pastries and desserts are spot on and also come at an affordable price. A giant creme brulee is only 4.50 and we also had the passion fruit mousse which was decadent, tangy, and LARGE. Enviroment is not the best since it's a small storefront attached to the actual factory, in an industrial zone but it doesn't matter. Try before you die type of place.
While everything I've tried here is delicious, the almond croissants are the best I've ever had. Now, don't buy them all! Please leave a few for me ;
