I'm so excited this business moved to my neighborhood, and am looking forward to taking a spanish class there! It is fun to walk by and see large groups in there and know they are all speaking Spanish. Plus, it offers a wonderful opportunity for monolingual English-only speakers to build their empathy for the many people who start out in the U.S. knowing little or no English. Just sit down and see if vulnerable or confused and imagine if every day was like that!
Nice, friendly cafe where you can, and are expected to, speak Spanish. We did just that. Good coffee. But my Spanish is limited so I need to learn more before I go back. But there were quite a few fluent speakers there. It's worth a visit.
This is such a great idea! I came for Spanish conversation and had a great time even though I did not know anyone in advance. The staff were super friendly. I Iove that everyone only speaks Spanish in there-- great for practicing! The atmosphere is also very cozy.
A wonderful place to practice your español! Friendly, highly encouraging staff. The coffee and treats are lovely. Not for everyone as this cafe is Spanish language only from the second you walk in the door, but if you are brave, the staff will help you through the ordering process in a very nonjudgemental way!
I've visited twice and have loved it. Great food that reminds me of my past life in Spain the tapas and tinto de verano are really well done, and it's a really lovely way to keep up my Spanish. The cafe is also baby-friendly, which is a huge plus. I will be back many more times and would encourage anyone to go, no matter their level of Spanish.
I was so excited to try out this unique idea for a cafe and it did not disappoint. The barista was super friendly and made a point of chit chatting with the customers in Spanish, of course!. I don't really speak Spanish, so I was pretty clueless, but it was still a good time. The vibe is very laid back and welcoming, and my latte was on point. Looking forward to returning soon! Gracias!
I am so thankful to have a place like Olé Café in my neighborhood! Not only are the food and atmosphere fantastic, but it's a welcoming environment that pushes your mind. You momentarily feel like you're traveling to another place, seeing the world from a different perspective. I can't imagine my life in Seattle without it!
What a great idea! This place has really helped me not only learn more Spanish through their classes but also use my Spanish in a fun, welcoming environment. The tapas and drinks were great, too.
This is an AMAZING idea, and I'm so happy this cafe opened in Seattle!! I'm currently studying Spanish at the University of Washington, so I was excited to hear about this. I went here for coffee with a friend a couple months ago right when they opened and the staff was super friendly & the space is super cute with Spanish signs, books and a lovely seating area. I know "only Spanish" can be a little intimidating if you're not familiar with the language, but that's why it's a perfect place to step out of your comfort zone and practice your Spanish skills! I honestly love that it's "No English"- just makes it so much fun and really highlights the purpose. The United States is now the second country with the most Spanish speakers after Mexico and is an extremely important language in the states. You can see it's popularity in recent music, Spanish translations on signs everywhere, etc.. I have no doubts that it could one day be declared the 2nd official language in the states. It makes me happy to see such a diverse nation and I'd love for more places like this to open up with other cool language ideas : Felicidades por este café!
The customer service is a disaster to say the least. In the website, they state that you can get in contact with them via phone, text message or email. Guess what? They won't reply either one. You can try for days with no luck. My Spanish students and I tried to get a reservation with them for 8 people and at the end I had to stop by to talk to them in person. Once there, I was simply denied the option because they needed more time in advance for them to plan having a group in their business. When I told them that we have been trying to reach them for almost a week, their response was: well, we are a small business and we are very busy! What? They did not seem interested at all in having people over spending money in their business, let alone offer an alternative or other option i.e., maybe come with the group at a different time, different day, etc. NOTHING! I was shocked at the lack of interest and poor customer service these people had. So please, do not be surprised if they treat you badly if you dare to stop by and you are not one of these two: 1 an American student learning Spanish or 2 an European Spanish I am a latina and could feel how the waitress did not even try to be welcoming to us as soon as she heard my accent, even if my husband was with me and is actually from SPAIN. No wonder why they are still a small business. A business will only grow when you know how to treat customers right!
