Dropped by for the soft opening. It’s a great cozy little spot, perfect for a brunch date or get together. Tried the tonkatsu sando and the Ohiru classic. Both dishes tasted great. The shokupan was crispy but still fluffy in the middle. The drinks were also great overall. The hojicha latte had a good balance of sweetness and not being too strong. Would recommend if you’re in the mood for some asian fusion brunch or if you have family/friends visiting Toronto and want to take them somewhere unique!
I heard about the soft opening from a friend and decided to give it a try. Although it is a bit difficult to find as there’s no sign, it was well worth it. We had four dishes that were incredible. Chashu Eggs Benny which were delicious and well presented. The Tonkatsu Sando was incredible the bread was toasted perfectly and a chunky piece of juicy pork. Udon Carbonara was my favourite with the onsen egg, full of flavour and creamy. Karaage Waffles was a hit at the table and everyone enjoyed them. My wife got the matcha latte and it was not bitter, very smooth. I got the hot chocolate which has marshallows, both I would recommend. The matcha creme brûlée and tiramisu were both great endings to the dining experience. Definitely worth effort to find this hole in the wall.
A Japanese twist on traditional brunch items where everything on the plate is thoughtfully curated and executed to perfection. Ohiru is definitely one of the best and most unique brunch spots in downtown Toronto right now, and an absolute must-try! Have visited a few times now during their soft open to sample their main menu items, including the Ohiru Classic, Karaage and Waffles, and Tonkatsu Sando. Each of these were absolutely excellent: there was not a single miss on any of these plates. Will definitely be back to frequent this place and sample the rest of the menu.
We had an amazing lunch at Ohiru and it is worth the wait!!! Our favourite spot so far during our trip to Toronto. Will definitely return, every single meal was delish. The server Brad was very attentive and made sure we had an amazing time, one of the best servers we had all weekend.
Insane lineups, but that's because the food is really good. If you can, suggest getting to Ohiru when it opens to avoid the long wait. We stopped by for brunch and got: - Karaage and Waffles: standout dish, with the karaage perfectly fried so it was crisp gold on the outside and glistening juiciness on the inside. - Chashu Eggs Benny: It was ok. Pork belly was tender though would have liked it a bit more tasty. Eggs benny were standard. - Hojicha Tiramisu: Yummy! Strong hojicha flavour, melt-in-your-mouth cake. - Hot Chocolate: More on the thinner side, but loved all the marshmallows. Prices are fairly reasonable. Place is small so packed. Service is friendly and efficient. This place is really hyped right now, and may just be worth the wait.
Overall 4/5 - just cause of the wait and noise level. But the food 5/5! Arrived at 11am on Sunday and was seated by 12:30. Table for 3 table for 2 will definitely get seated faster. Last call for seating is at 2:30pm. All in all the place is pretty small maybe max 20ish seating. But good gosh the food was worth the wait. Chasu eggs Benny 10/10 perfectly poached eggs and decent hollandais over decent piece of Chasu pork served with a side of baby potatoes and garden salad. Karage & waffles with miso syrup and aoli 10/10 also comes with salad. Seriously can’t go wrong with fried chicken, and the waffles were just how I like them crispy outside and soft inside. Would ask for extra syrup it was soo good. Udon carbonara with toasted shokupan 10/10 beautiful carbs on top of carbs. those pieces of bacon/pork belly just perfect with the creamy udons and the onsen egg, mouthgasam of creamy cheesy flavour. Matcha crème brûlée 11/10. Do not skip out on the matcha crème brûlée, it was heavenly and decadent. As for drinks, Sparkling peach oolong, was to be expected nothing really outstanding about it, but the hot Sakura latte was the perfect amount of sweet, but lacking the floral of Sakura. If you are getting the iced Sakura latte, I recommend getting half sweet. The place is pretty loud due to the amount of diners and close proximity, so if you are looking for a quiet chill brunch spot, skip this place or bring some headphones.
Delicious Japanese inspired brunch. Very attentive service and delicious drinks especially the matcha latte. For the breakfast dishes, the eggs were perfectly poached and the smashed potatoes were a hit! The chicken and waffles had the perfect pairing in the miso butter. Will return to try the other menu items.
Small Japanese fusion cafe in Toronto close to Chinatown and Little Italy. We tried Chicken Karaage wafle and katsu sando, both are fantastic. Matcha latte and cortado are also nice. A good spot come to when you visit Toronto.Food: 5/5
A small Japanese influenced cafe that I've been seeing on Instagram. I went a couple times, trying different food. I first tried the chicken katsu sando. The fries were amazing, the sando was spot on; however, in my opinion, the chicken wasn't well-seasoned. I tried the ichigo smoothie, very smooth and filling. Then, I tried the mixed berries waffle with caramelized banana. The waffles had a crispy exterior and soft interior, it goes well with the miso syrup. In addition, I also tried both desserts. The matcha creme brulee was soft and the hojicha tiramisu was light, not too sweet and overpowering at all. Overall, amazing food. The place is very small that the seats fill up quick and they only accept walk-ins.
We went on a Monday for brunch. Surprisingly busy during early lunch hours but we didn’t have to wait and chose to sit by the counter. Service was great but just a few things with our order: - Peach oolong sparkling was great but wish the soda was more bubbly. - Udon carbonara was a bit bland for my liking. The thick slice of shokupan was a nice addition. - Tonkatsu sando was the favourite dish.
