Obsidian Dining Room

Great food, especially for road-weary travellers, which we happened to be. Food was priced above the quality, however this isn't surprising - it's a kitchen in a national park, miles away from an urban area. You can get a tasty and well-portioned meal, don't have any doubt about that. The braised lamb was delicious.

I arrived at 5:00pm as Obsidian opened to let them know that our group of 13 would like to dine at 6:00pm. I was informed they didn't take reservations. I told them I would sit right next to the host stand so they could let me know when the appropriate time was to "put my name in" so we could be seated. At 5:45pm I asked again (as I had been ignored even though sitting 6 feet away). They put my name on their "list" at 6:00pm our group showed up. We were seated at 6:15pm and immediately ordered. The food is pricey. This was going to be a dining experience for our family. The problem...it took 90 full minutes to get our food and that after I had a very pointed conversation with the manager. Was the food good...we don't know. The kids by then were insane and no one really wanted to finish their meal. The offered us "free dessert"...but no one wanted to stay. We visit yellowstone every year in October. The Obsidian Dining Room won't be one of our stops. The solutions for the Obsidian are so simple...."We're running behind in the kitchen...I see you have children with you. It may be 60-90 minutes before your food can be served, is that OK". Instead the response from our server was...."The food comes out when it comes out and I can't do anything about it...you'll just have to wait". No finer place on the planet than Yellowstone. No worse place to get a meal that the Obsidian for dinner.

Service was great. Buffet only was available and the food selection was small. Prices weren't terrible but coul have been more reasonable for the lack of choices.

Came here for drinks and appetizers, and had a great experience :) service was a little slow, but we loved our food and the drinks were strong and unique!

Terrible food!! Took well over an hour to get our meals and the price was horrible!! Biggest mistake!!
