A gorgeous basilica, and a must-see in Montreal. Whether you are religious or not, the amount of art work in this building is astounding and the layout can impress anyone.nnYou do need tickets to enter, and you do need to purchase them online before you get to the door. It's easy to get them early, and there are different prices for guided tours or for just going in on your own personal tour in May 2022 was $15 per adult. Plus you can pay a couple of dollars inside to light candles if you like.nnBut just entering into the building brings a sense of awe to the viewer, and a quiet tour through will tell you more about different parts. A quick look at the newer chapel in the back and the more modern art there continues to impress - I am extremely glad we went inside.
Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal is a breathtaking masterpiece and a must-visit landmark in the city. The moment you step inside, you are mesmerized by its stunning Gothic Revival architecture, intricate wood carvings, and vibrant stained-glass windows that depict Montreal’s rich history. The ambiance is peaceful and awe-inspiring, making it a perfect place for reflection.nnThe light and sound show, Aura, is an incredible experience that brings the basilica to life with music and visuals. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a serene escape, this place is truly worth visiting. Highly recommended!
It's gorgeous, with a ton of architectural details throughout. There was some scaffolding when we visited January 2025. Most people seem to miss the sides of the building, which are also very pretty, and much quieter to see. I definitely recommend coming back to see the Aura event they hold inside. It completely transforms it. Get the tickets online beforehand, as they're more expensive at the door. Overall, it was a nice, short, worry-free experience.
I found it to be overwhelming. There is so much to see plus it was calming and quiet. The architecture was amazing. The organ is the second largest in the world. Our visiting time was an hour. Some people are there longer depending on how close you study everything. There is a separate prayer room open to anyone. I feel anyone would enjoy and should go and see the beauty of it .
We went to the light show on Valentine's Day and it was nothing short of spectacular. From the start to finish, it was a beautiful journey. At the end of the light show, you're welcomed to walk around, take pictures and appreciate the art of this church
