I attended the Vigil service yesterday night, the day before Easter. They had a rare baptism at the church and that is always great to see. The service started in the pitch black. A single candle is blessed and from that single candle, everyone has a lot candle. Slowly, the hundred or so candles are lit as the ceremony continues. After 22 minutes, all the candles are lit and the lights are turned on. Absolutely beautiful.
Nice building, the service was rather long and overly elaborated, with smells and bells and 19th century English, suitable for Victorian London, but not for Canada in 2018. The congregation was rather cliquish and dismissive towards visitors, they all know each other and if you are not one of them you do not exist. The clergy people were perfunctorily polite. No wonder why the average age in the congregation must be about 80 years and there are not that many anyway. The main door was locked due to repairs, with no sign about where the temporary entrance was, so if you're not a regular there is no way to know where the entrance is. This place is a good excuse to miss church on Sunday or have any involvement with organized religion.
Calling your self a church but kicking out your only mission/services to homeless people.... God would be so proud. Shammmmmme on u
Good staff for the most part. Kitchen workers on both morning and afternoon shift are ignorant humans who belong making food on the street or for their family and that's the extent of their knowledge. They also believe homeless who are vegetarian is a very wrong thing. Laughing at and belittling people who go there. Only the kitchen staff. Everyone else is wonderful there.
Beautiful music and s traditional Anglo Catholic service. There are female priests and servers on a regular basis. Book of Common Prayer is used. Across from Metro Place des Arts.
Church of Saint John the Evangelist is close to the Place des arts.
Can everyone tell me is there any confession room in this church?
Wonderful acoustic for music making. Friendly clergy and congregation, too.
God lives here. I visit him on Sundays. What more can I say?
Love this place. Hopefully they will be able to stay open. Had the most beautifully spiritual experiences here
