Story

NOMI is owned and operated by Kristi Cross, jewellery designer of Kris Cross Designs.

In October 2007, she opened NOMI to showcase her work alongside the finest handcrafted gifts and accessories from across Canada and North America.

The name NOMI honours her parents, NO(buyuki) and MI(tsuko), who have been great supporters of her pursuit of this dream.

NOMI was created to support other independent artists and to offer a unique shopping experience along Newmarket's historic Main Street.

Kristi is quick to point out that she is not a silversmith, yet she uses her intuition to meld what might otherwise be seen as simple beadwork into original pieces. Using such techniques as hammering, oxidization, wire wrapping and otherwise manipulating her chosen materials - sterling silver, freshwater pearls and semi-precious stones - she creates what can best be described as striking selections. Think of her work as the "little black dress" of your jewellery collection. It's simple, appropriate for all occasions, yet distinctive enough that it gets noticed and appreciated.

Visited Nomi on Main St. this morning.  Kristi has a lovely selection of unique items.  As always, I found the perfect gifts. She has great taste, is a terrific help & a craftsman in her own right. I treasure this store & enjoy shopping locally.

This is my favourite Newmarket small business.  The window drew me in my first visit and the owner brought me back until it is a regular must-visit.   She gets in really unique items that range from sweet the baby hats make beautiful gifts to trendy the sari kimonos are right on trend to quirky and stylish loving the hippy vibe bags made from recycled tents and carpet fabrics to  elegant her handcrafted jewellery pieces are truly special.  If you want a special gift or a treat for yourself you can’t go wrong with this cozy shop.   It’s such a nice change from shopping big box chain retail.  Combine it with a stroll through old Newmarket, pick up a tea on the corner and a butter tart from across the street on Main and end it with a meander through Fairy Lake park and it’s a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

NOMI is my go-to for unique and wonderful gifts and handcrafted items.  The owner puts so much thought and care into her store, and it shows.  The pandemic has been such a challenging time for small business owners - she has always put the safety of customers first.

Nomi on Main St. Newmarket is my favourite shop for unique and beautifully made jewelry and gift ware. Products are sourced from artists who produce one of a kind items. The staff is always friendly and helpful. A great place to browse as part of a Main St. adventure.

I love this store. The owner is so wonderful and puts so much thought and care into her products. Such unique beautiful items. It is my favourite. Such a nice treat from regular box store products.

Terrible. Never open even though we are in stage 1 of reopening. They could at least limit the amount of people in the store... but they don't even open their doors to potential customers. I guess the owner isn't serious about doing business. The owner is irresponsible for putting on google maps that their store is open when it is either temporarily or permanently closed. If I could give it a -5 star, I would.  I drove all the way from Ajax to go to main street Newmarket to check out this store and others. Waste of time. Btw I updated  their store hours for them on google. It is their responsibility  but they don't take responsibility  at all.

A delightful collection of just what you may be looking for in jewelry, books, knick knacks and more. Loved the experience and left with a souvenir.
