I’ve been visiting Nickels Bakery for the past 21 years, it’s an amazing, well located right on Lonsdale busiest area, bakery. My recommendation, if you need a bread, is the sunflower round bread. For your morning coffee, I almost always opt for the poppy seed buns, or the butter bun. If you have a bunch of kids visiting your house, you will never go wrong when you get the donuts. My favourite are with plum jam or sweet cheese. For deserts, you will have a choice between the cheesecakes, apple slices, or eclairs. There is also a solid selection of chocolate boxes ready to be handed over as a present when visiting friends. Bakery has a small but tasty choice of wieners and sausages not to mention Edam cheeses and canned fish. Usually you may find a good selection of frozen pierogi both with sweet cheese or fruits or sauerkraut and mushrooms. I suggest visiting Nickels just before noon, everything is fresh and right from the oven. The bakery is very popular and with so many choices you will find a line up quite often full of people standing patiently outside the store!
Can’t beat their prices! Old school, unassuming, small European bakery that specializes in pączki and sourdough rye bread. A couple favourites include their pączki $1.50 each, apple cake slice $1.75 and large meringue $0.99. Always try to stop in to grab a few items when we’re in North Van.
My favourite bakery in North Vancouver! Nickel’s Bakery has been serving authentic German, Polish and Eastern European staples for many decades at this spot. Their Sourdough Rye Bread and Doughnuts are famous! My favourite doughnut flavours so far are "Glazed" and "Cheese" - $1.50 each. Simple but delicious! There's usually a line-up outside as this bakery is small and operated by a single front staff, but it's worth the wait. Check it out when you're in the area.
Nickels Bakery is a beloved institution in the community, known for its delicious pastries, breads, and other baked goods. Located in a charming, historic building in the heart of the city, the bakery has a warm, inviting atmosphere and a friendly staff. The selection of pastries is always impressive, with a wide variety of sweet and savory options to choose from. The bakery is particularly famous for its fresh-baked bread, with a variety of artisanal loaves available daily. The croissants are also a must-try, flaky and buttery and perfectly executed. In addition to its baked goods, Nickels Bakery also serves a selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads for lunch. The coffee is also top-notch, with a variety of roasts and brewing methods available. Overall, Nickels Bakery is a delightful spot for a quick bite or a leisurely breakfast or lunch. The baked goods are always fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
The first thing you notice, besides the rows of doughnuts is the smell. The sweet aroma of frying dough permeates the space. Lining up is the norm, be prepared to wait a few minutes, it’s worth it. Everything prepared is fantastic including the sausage. Highly recommend the bakery when in the neighborhood or as a destination.
Lovely staff, fresh baked goods - try the salt sticks and glazed doughnuts!
Great little bakery. A wide variety of freshly baked goods to choose from. I've dropped by and just got a couple of things on many occasions, always happy with everything I've tried. Not too sweet.
Best cinnamon buns in North Van. Moist, dense and only 70 cents. Update: Had a fresh, warm poppyseed donut today. It was so good I got a bit emotional.
This place is such a hidden gem. The doughnuts are the best in all of the Vancouver area and they have so many other delicious things. The staff are always friendly as well.
The best doughnuts I have ever eaten! We got some fresh first thing in the morning and they were amazing! The prices are great and the pastries were spot on. We also got a fresh loaf of bread.
