I wasn't sure when I first walked in, but the baked goods were very good! I had a Banana Muffin and a Coconut Dream and both were wonderful. The staff was fairly friendly.
Great little place for Gluten Free food, their panini in particular was great. I only wish their hours were more accessible, as it's hard to include them in my grocery trips when I also work a 9-5 job!
I liked this bakery, but now I'm not impressed. I bought a chicken pot pie, cheesy bread, sausage rolls, paninis, and apple pie. The chicken pot pie was really disappointing, with barely any chicken or vegetables for that fact; we were basically just eating dough. The sausage rolls were very dry, lacked freshness, and were a complete crumbly mess. As for the paninis, they barely had any flavour, and I would not repurchase them. The bread and sweets here are fine, but the quality of the other items seriously needs to be worked on. I spent a good bit of money and was so unimpressed.
I highly recommend that you pay cash or make sure you check everything carefully.
I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I wanted to share my experience so that hopefully others avoid my frustration. I went to the bakery today and purchased 2 loaves of "sourdough" bread, a pack of butter tarts and a few other items. I noticed that the bread didn't smell quite right, but I was in a rush and needed to get home. When I arrived home and sliced it, I discovered that it wasn't sourdough it was plain white bread. It does not have the sour fermented flavour or smell that proper sourdough has. I was also disappointed to find that the butter tarts were dry and stale - the sugar filling inside having hardened and crystallized. I called about the issue with the bread mix up and was told that sourdough and white bread are the same, which they are not. I definitely wouldn't go back and would urge you to spend your money elsewhere. Gluten free products are expensive enough as it is, at least you should get what you are paying for.
Fantastic and friendly customer service. They make THE BEST EVER gluten, dairy, egg and yeast free bread around. Like most breads of this fashion, it's best toasted, but from toasted it tastes and feels like "regular bread", which is often difficult to find in these types of breads. And it makes great sandwiches my 7yr old loves in her school lunches. I buy these loaves in bulk and keep in my freezer, the slices NEVER stick together, this is a huge benefit over other breads that once frozen, you try to get a slice and the bread has molded into one big slice that breaks off in pieces so frustrating. The bread is on the $$ side, but most of these kinds of breads are and there is, not to my knowledge, other breads out there without yeast, egg, gluten and dairy and with low sugar and pretty decent ingredients. I happily pay the $$. This bread is unique, especially for those needing this type of bread and I couldn't be more grateful to Mountain Top Cafe and Bakery for inventing this perfect bread! Thank you Grace and Bruce!!!! One day I hope to visit your Cafe .
The smell of this bakery is so inviting in the hallway and inside the bakery! Lots of selection to chose from, but not any freshly baked pastries. When we went, everything was individually wrapped and presumably not baked fresh. The date square and macadamia nut brownie were very small portions maybe 2inches and cost over $6. They were decent, and would like to check out bread from here in the future.
I tried the chicken panini here and the bread portion doesn't taste as good as it smells. The aroma is very nice, but the crust is dry feeling. I found it hard to eat. I also bought a box of granola bars that just came out fresh. The lady literally just put it in the box. Smells and tastes great. Definitely worthwhile to take on a hike. It's located inside the mall with entrance being along Lonsdale Ave. You can smell the fresh bread from outside the door. Once entered the mall, go straight as it's right at the end of the long hallway. I bought the apple pie as well, but have yet to try it. Will update this review later. Easy access and easy to find as there is a sandwich board outside on the sidewalk.
We, unfortunately, were unable to get anything here because we didn't have a Canadian credit card. I understand if you don't want to pay the processing fee since we're American, but we were planning on buying roughly $40 worth of product. At a bakery, that's quite a bit. Additionally, if you don't accept American credit cards, maybe put a sign on your door or let us know before we order. When we weren't able to buy the product, we were treated very rudely and left. It's a shame because everything in the shop looked wonderful and obviously if you need to eat gluten-free, I ASSUME this would be a good place to go since they had a lot of variety.
Had an appointment for a massage this morning and the delicious bakery aroma dragged me to this gem of a store on my way out. I found many delicious GF treats for my wife - Macaroons, Granola bars and a delicious Greek Quiche!
