Nice little rustic campground. Been to this one a lot of times. Nice to get away for a weekend. A lot of trails to walk down a nice little swim area. Am going again this weekend.
Each site is encompassed in trees for a bit of seclusion vs other places. If the booth is open during biz hours, wood is $6–homes 1/4 mile either way out of the park are $5. Disc golf course thru the trees and a one mile trail are located here. Bathrooms are fancier versions of outhouses—bring your own water and soap. Close to Pilgrim Run Golf Course if you’re into that. Boat launch also located in between the two halves of the park. Hope to come again!
Rode a mountain bike all the way around the resevoir starting here, it is about 75% mtb trails, a few 2 tracks, a few paved roads, had a blast.
I love camping in poplar. Oak is a bit tight for family camping . But a GREAT camp site!
Had a nice stay. My site was spread out from others so I had decent privacy. I was hammock camping which can be pretty exposing itself. They do use vault toilets. But they seemed pretty clean for what they are. PLEASE keep the toilet lid closed after using vault toilets! Keeps the smell away. But honestly, they didn't smell horribly. The water pump is a true pump. Gotta put muscle into it. I'd suggest just bringing extra EXTRA water. They have a lot of them throughout the property, as well as the toilets. So you're not walking far. They're no showers so plan accordingly. Heads up though. If you look at MI reservations site, site 84 is not what's pictured. It's actually an internal site. But you have immediate access to an open space with a beautiful view of the lake, especially at sunrise. The incorrect picture is why I'm giving it 4 stars. I was really disappointed that I didn't have a lakeside site.
Nice place, I'd like to see more trash cans & trail markers so you know where you're at and where you're going. Though it is a beautiful place.
Beautiful park. Campsites are large and spread out. Lots of trees for sites so it is always shady. The beach area for campers is pretty small unless there is another I didn't see. The boat launch is good for kayaks as well as motorized boats.
To each their own. This place is packed tight, on the weekends the noise pollution is something else, partyers, atv, hunters, fire crackers boat engines, at all hours. If you are there to drink beer, put your boat in the lake, and disc golf go here, if you want to be in the wild country there are 1000000 better options in the lower peninsula.
Good access to a must ride MI MTB Trail! The Dragon Trail at Hardy Dam pond is a high-class mountain bike trail. This is one of the best planned and fun Michigan mountain bike destinations where you’ll experience a natural surface trail that utilizes the bench cut method, designed to create great water runoff, along with boardwalks, bridges, rock armoring, jumps, gaps, rollers and beautiful overlooks!
If you are looking for hot showers and internet access this is not for you. However, if you would like to get to know your kids again what a great place. The park features a legit 18 hole frisbee golf course that runs along the shoreline in many places with spectacular views of the lake below. To the West if you follow the foot path you can take a gorgeous hike along the shoreline. Limited to non existent cell coverage, Rustic toilets, no stores for many miles, but a quite park.
