Upon being posted to CFB Petawawa from New Brunswick in May 2013, I brought in my 2012 Jeep Wrangler to get a safety done. When I went to pick up my car, I was informed that the vehicle did not pass safety due to the ball joints being excessively worn. I was surprised that my one year old vehicle (with 40k km) did not pass safety, and took the Jeep to the Jeep dealership in Ottawa to get a second opinion and get the problem repaired since my vehicle was under warranty. The Jeep dealership inspected the vehicle and did not agree with Neville’s assessment, and said the ball joints were up to spec. I brought the receipt with the Jeep dealership’s diagnosis back to Neville Motors in order to get my safety signed off. Neville Motors refused to sign off my safety, refused to have a second look at my ball joints, and instead said that they stood behind the mechanic’s initial assessment. I asked for a refund, but Neville Motors refused that as well. After arguing for half an hour, Neville Motors decided to call the Jeep dealership in Petawawa since he knew the mechanic there. The Jeep dealership in Petawawa agreed to have a look at my Jeep, and Neville Motors said that if they said my ball joints were up to spec, he would sign off my safety. I then had to take my vehicle to the Petawawa Jeep dealership, which said my ball joint were indeed up to spec. I took the new diagnosis back to Neville, and only then did he sign off my safety inspection. It seems like Neville Motors is either unfamiliar with the specs of the vehicles they are inspecting, or they are simply trying to take advantage of military personnel who are freshly posted here and are in need of a safety inspection in order to register their vehicle in Ontario. I can only imagine someone whose vehicle is not under warranty, having to take Neville Motors' word and spend hundreds of dollars fixing something that was not broken in the first place. Either way, choose an honest and competent mechanic to work on your car, and don’t waste you time with Neville Motors.
