Nelson Fitness Center

Brown's gym and pool for faculty, staff, and students. I'm visiting Brown for a semester on sabbatical leave so I bought a semester pass for $80. Cardio and weights are upstairs and you can look out the windows as you while away your time. There are studios on the main floor for group classes. Locker rooms and pool are in the basement. Lockers are for day use- bring your own lock! The facilities are clean and the equipment is well maintained. Not super crowded in the mornings, but students fill the place in the evenings.

Large gym, well kept pool, only thing that would make it better would be a climbing wall.

Just don't go to the crowded periods of time, but other than that a nice, big clean gym

The pool is wonderful. What's less wonderful is the access. Often the calendar on the website will indicate that the pool is available when, indeed, that's not the case. Annoying if one checks the calendar in advance and heads over only to learn that one can't go swimming. Moreover, it's bothersome that if a group, for example a sports camp, monopolizes the pool and the general public is declined access. The facility is terrific. Too bad the hours aren't more extensive, especially in the summer months when swimming is a treat. It would be great if the folks running the athletic department could reconsider their approach to the pool.
