There is not enough stars above to give the staff at Mount Lawn Funeral Home the credit that they deserve. They went above and beyond for our family every step of the way, we didn't feel rushed while trying to make very difficult decisions with the service we wanted for our sons funeral. Carley & Jocelyn were very supportive, professional and genuinely thoughtful which made this very difficult process possible. Mount Lawn Funeral Home is well maintained inside and out, I would truly 100% recommend Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery as I have had nothing but the best experience with them. As my son always said "people will never forget how you made them feel"
I'm extremely disappointed in this funeral home. I have generations of family that have plots there: great grandparents, grandparents, parents, sibling and myself and husband. My brother has a vase on his window in the chapel that has been broken now for 5 months, since May 2022. My grandmother makes beautiful flower arrangements for this vase to switch out for all holidays and seasons, and has asked numerous times for it to be fixed and nothing is being done about it. For all that we have given this funeral home, and we can't even get a vase fixed? I'm appalled that it is still broken, almost half a year later. Either they are very unorganized, or simply don't care. Either way, my husband and I are now thinking of pulling out and going somewhere else. Things break, I understand, but 5 months to tighten a screw so flowers can stand up in it, and it's still not fixed... That says a lot.
We had our mom’s funeral at Mount Lawn in Whitby. Carly was amazing along with the Manager and all the rest of the staff. Manjeet did such a great job at the reception. We are extremely happy with the service, the staff. The place was always clean and the crematorium staff the lady there was so kind and patient . Thank you to all the staff at Mount Lawn. From the Rajaratnam family in Whitby
Last October 24th at the Funeral of Susan Atkinson, the Mother of my children, I’d asked them to advise where our first/stillborn son Jeremy was buried as the layout had changed since 1985. While waiting for the information and in major grief for our loss, the Sales Rep had the unmitigated gall to ask if my wife and I had prearranged our funeral arrangements while handing over her business card. They are obviously more about making outrageous profits, when you’re most vulnerable , than providing comfort. At another family funeral yesterday, held at a more Professional Funeral Chapel, my daughter told me Mount Lawn had outrageously claimed we’d never paid for Jeremy’s bronze marker…37 years ago! If I hear they’ve lied to my daughter again, I’ll be contacting whatever Association they are members of I’m not surprised to find they’re not BBB accredited! Recently I took photos of 3 family plots showing empty holes in the markers where bronze flower vases should be. As well, one $300.nameplate had obviously been chiseled off. Thieves, allowed entry to the cemetery 24/7 due to their idiotic open gate policy and NO SECURITY on patrol, sell these $400. - $600. vases to unscrupulous scrap metal companies . Of course, they’ll sell you a new vase or nameplate which will only get stolen again and they won’t compensate you.
This is the second time in the last year that my inlaws vase has been removed from their stone and placed under a tree far away from the grave. I was told they were moved for a service near the inlaws grave. I don't understand how they cannot be labeled as to where they belong and put back. I find it disrespectful to remove the vase that has been loving looked after with flowers and momentos. I imagine it could cause stress to elderly relatives to visit and and see the vase missing not knowing they must hunt around for the vase they purchased for their loved one. I find this unacceptable.
Love this place, it’s always so well kept, I love seeing the beautiful flowers laid out while I go to visit my grandmother and Great grandfather‘s grave. The staff is super friendly and is very informative of anything your needing help with.
Absolutely horrible experience. Hidden costs throughout the entire process. When you sit down for the first consultation about services, it’s almost as bad as sitting down trying to buy a used car. The amount of upselling and forcing “extras” on you after you’ve told them multiple times you don’t want it is outrageous. You just lost a loved one, can barely see through the tears, and their employees will sit across the table and try to convince you to get all the bells and whistles. They also have multiple departments that don’t communicate so one person never knows entirely what’s happening with the funeral of your loved one. At one point through the process had one of their employees tell us “it’s not their job” to know about the funeral and that I’d have to speak to someone else if I wanted more info. Be careful when you make a payment. Get EVERYTHING in writing. We made a large payment and were told that that’s it and there is nothing more owing. Two days later we receive a phone call from “one of the other department” telling us we owe more money. We pay that. A few weeks later we get another phone call from the first department telling us we owe more money. When questioned them we are told that “you didn’t owe more AT THE TIME. Always hidden charges and fees. Customer beware. Once you start the process with them they know you can’t really shop around so they will squeeze you for every last penny they can.
I cannot thank Mount Lawn Funeral home enough for the lovely service they organized for my dear Grandmother. Sarah especially went above and beyond in the planning process, ensuring the obituary, flowers and casket were to our liking. The makeup artist made my grandmother look radiant, one of the best jobs I’ve ever seen. I appreciated the amount of chairs they had set up and the constant supply of water in the room. I would highly recommend Mount Lawn to anyone seeking a funeral home in the Whitby/Oshawa area. Thanks Again.
It is one of the best funeral homes they have in the Durham region. The service is exceptionally wonderful. The staff is absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend this place for a final resting place. God bless the staff at Mount Lawn. I'm a little disheartened, it's been over 8 months that I've been waiting for a head stone to be placed on my loved one and the waiting is way too long for unknown reasons. Family members visit the site and cant find the spot. Looks bare and empty
Having been reluctant based on previous reviews, Mount Lawn Funeral Home exceeded our expectations when the family's matriarch, my Grandmothe, passed away. The staff were extremely respectful and professional to our family during this difficult time. In addition, they presented my Grandmother beautifully which made the process of saying goodbye a little bit easier. We had another death in the family that preceded hers and we used another funeral home in the area and were quite disappointed overall. We are very happy we choose Mount Lawn and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a funeral home.
