Decent place to grab a bite to eat, though I did not find the Monk's Burger to be striking in flavour, nor were the fries salted not necessarily bad, just very difficult to get salt to stick to them if you would prefer your fries salted. Very convenient location, and there has always been space for seating whenever I have been there. The serving staff are excellent.
First of all, I was greeted and seated quickly. My server was incredibly friendly and accommodating. However, the food was not good. The meat in the prime rib was over cooked and the fried onions looked old. The fries were decent. Keep in mind, this is an airport restaurant so there should not be any surprises here.
Its very hard to rate this place via 5 start rating system..the food is decent, there are definitely some items that are great breakfast sandwiches are always good the main menu is hit and miss but not terrible. The service is absolutely atrocious ... you get better service at a gas station in south dekota if Google had negative star rating id give it that for service but on the other hand where else would you be able to order a double Caesar at 7 in the morning ..
had steak and fries a Caesar salad and calamari. this place is handy right next to air Canada domestic gates. fries were cold, salad was ok steak was a bit chewy and burnt tasting . waitress was rushed and seemed to be very busy. the place needs an upholstery overhaul- considering the volume this place does, sitting on duct taped seats leads me to think the profits go out the door and not re invested into a consumer experience.
We had a layover and decided to have dinner at this place. We tried the chicken sandwich, it was okay but only had chicken and coleslaw with siracha. Didn't enjoy it much. However, the Choco Lava cake with vanilla gelato was super delicious. The cake was not too sweet which I liked and it paired well with the gelato.
Worst burger I've ever had. Dry, bland, meat to bread ratio is way off. Why is the veg on the bottom? Bun was dry, burger patty was dense and dry. Did I say it was dry? The fries were the best thing on the plate.
Service was extremely slow, seen our server visit neighboring tables multiple times before serving us only after asking another server for help. Ordered what was supposed to be a hot sandwich but it wasn't even warm enough to melt the cheese, probably due to the barely noticeable fillings. When brought up to the server he became quite rude and said it would be warm next time. Very unimpressed
Okay food, serves was decent, environment nice but as I bite into my second half of my ham & Brie grill cheese sandwich it tasted funny. I had to spit it out as when I investigated the sandwich I noticed mold on the bread. Also the cheese didn’t taste like Brie as it tasted mild like mozzarella or something with cheesy texture but no cheese flavour. I had it with a Cesar salad that they claimed they made there croutons but the croutons I got were from a bag. Also I had to pick through the lettuce as it was hard ends, brown ends and wilted lettuce so not impressed with my food. I gave it a 3 as my husband said his food was okay. Decent.
Some of the worst food I've had in a while. Steak is $40, allegedly 10oz but looks like 4oz, and is served on paper plates. Potatoes were undercooked, veggies were sparse, and the server even brought out extra steak because the amount we were originally served was "unacceptable" his words. When I asked him for a steak knife, he laughed and said "that's impossible here." Save your money, eat at Timmies.
*I was lucky enough to be able to get in before my flight but be aware that because it caters to all airport passengers, waiting times can be long.* - Monks grill has reasonable prices, with standard pub food. After a long day though, it really hits the spot. The fries were a bit soggy, and kind of bland. I think it would help in Monks to invest in some classic fry dips. The best part of my experience was meeting and being able to spend the hour with a couple other single travellers, drinking, eating and closing our time in Van.
