Story

Alberta's first Japanese restaurant, serving Edmonton since 1972. To provide you with the best sashimi and sushi, we have fresh fish flown weekly from Tsukiji, Japan (the world's largest fish market), California, Nova Scotia, and the B.C. Coast.

We have genuine Robata grills specially imported from Japan. Their unique design allows for very high temperatures while keeping meats, seafood and vegetables juicy and tender.

The Mikado team is proud to include certified Japanese Sushi Chefs in our kitchen staff. Mikado features large Sushi Bars and Private Tatami Rooms to enhance your dining pleasure.

Consistent. Always really tasty. Always excellent friendly and precise service. Yes, getting pricier but it’s worth it. I’d love to see a upgrade to the washrooms. Getting kinda gross and super worn down and, you can tell a lot about a business almost solely based on awesome washrooms. Oh yeah, love the Brad rolls!
After trying EVERY sushi place in Edmonton and surrounding area, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is the best place to go. When they say your order will be ready for pick up, they actually mean it! Super friendly staff as well. The sushi is the freshest and highest quality too. Only problem I have is that they don’t have a location in Sherwood park. My partner and I ordered a whole assortment of stuff and EVERYTHING tasted amazing!! I couldn’t stop eating it even after I was stuffed lol. Can’t wait to be back and dine in next time.
Pros: Food was not bad - came out with good presentation and at the expected quality. Taste was good and I enjoyed it. The menu is extensive enough but not overwhelming, and while not genuinely Japanese has something for everyone. Cons: Service was slow and there are parts of the decor that are surprisingly bare read: ghetto such as the open ceiling where I can see through to the HVAC above or the two nondescript doors marked "Open" and "Exit". A few simple touches and changes could help first impressions a lot. Lastly, price point is not reflective of where Mikado sits in the market.
Friendly, efficient service. Food was good but nothing distinguishing it from other Japanese restaurants in Edmonton. The portion sizes average for the price and little thought on given the presentation. The sashimi presentation was attractive. Overall, probably 3.5 out of 5.
Good location with ample parking spaces outside. Interior was really spacious and well layed out. Very clean and modern looking. The food is not something innovative or mind blowing but the quality and taste are consistent and pleasant. The servers were friendly and attentive and was nice to have a little chit chat with them whenever possible; nice little human touch to the meal.
I have had food from Mikado over the years and it hasn't really changed. Overall, the quality you get for the price point is not great. In particular, the sushi rolls are inconsistent in thickness and are rolled with too much rice which can be squished and made quite dense for the amount of seafood provided. The seafood itself can be hit and miss. For example, the salmon in the dragon eye is on the dry side; the salmon collar is quite tender while the chop chop's scallops lack scallop flavor. You can spend $50 a person in other cities and get higher quality and quantity.
Visited March 27, 2022. Restaurant has plenty of parking, there is a large lot as part of South Edmonton Common. There was no line and was able to be seated shortly. Front staff seemed unorganized, a bit of confusion about where to seat someone. The restaurant has a unique floor plan making it seem not very busy. However order did take a while to get, and server kept saying they were super busy. Food is quite pricy for the amount and service received. However the Chicken Karrage was delicious with the special Dragon Eyes sauce. Restaurant is clean and washroom are kept tidy. Overall rating: 3/5 stars Price and Service could use improving.
I have tried many different sushi restaurants in Edmonton and in my opinion this location has the freshest fish. The salmon was smooth and silky. Highly recommend.
Very delicious food. The restaurant is huge and we sat in a room with a traditional Japanese setup which was cool! The menu itself was so beautiful with the drawn items. Everything tasted fresh and amazing.
We thoroughly enjoyed every part of the meals! We ordered the Bento box A2, A4 and the deluxe with Sashimi, plus mix tempura, for our lunch last Sunday. The quality and great taste of each part of the dishes shine in the details or nuances. For example, the beef in A2 bento has the charcoal grill flavour that is very delicious and different from the beef in A4. The tempura is so light, fresh and tasty, and it's easily the best tempura I've had. Our server told us that the owner and some of the staff are Japanese and this restaurant has been around for 30 years - this is rare. I plan to come back for sure whenever we are in Edmonton.
