This izakaya was one of my Edmonton my to eat list for a while which I'm from Calgary. This family long weekend we finally had an opportunity to stay in Edmonton for 3D2N, was impressed by the service and food there, I can tell they have the heart to cook good food for the customers, also not understaffed which we had impressive service by the young girls. Matcha beer sounds very weird but after the first sip you wanna drink more, it was terrific! Takowashabi is always my favorite which I haven't been having it for long since I can't find a restaurant serving this in Calgary but in Sakura,it tastes great and I love how the serve with nori! We also ordered some pressed sushi, which they are good, but not wow, as we do have a favourite pressed sushi restaurant in our mind and no one can beat it so far.. We ordered the cod fish which I thought the veggies was just for garnish but they actually put dressing into it so it was actually a salad! This I can see the heart from the chef. We also order chicken karage, were so full so we took it back to the hotel, it was still crispy after 5,6 hours! We also ordered hamachi, ikura and Toro sushi, thick cut and very fresh! The steam clam was amazing, I love how the put the butter with sake and some other seasoning, also they are perfectly cooked, would like have some bread or pasta to eat with it!! We also ordered bancha, it's a tea that very silky and smooth, not sure what kinda water they use for the tead but definitely not from the tap. This place gonna be a must visit for Edmonton restaurant for us. Love this place!
Tofu was quite delicious. Should use a little smaller dish or plate to plate the food, right now it looks too small. Rolls were pretty good; however, the taste of the sauces and imitation crab overpowered the taste of the fish/scallops. The udon was underwhelming - both in terms of quantity and quality. Quantitiy wise, very little. Quality wise, the noodles were soft and had no chew to them. The restaurant itself is very cozy, decorations are nice as well.
The miso soup and spicy salmon roll are delicious. The service is so friendly and excellent! If I get the chance again to visit, I definitely want to try their octopus and ice cream.Food: 4/5
Everything I ordered is yummy and original. The staffs are friendly as well. The only thing I would say is that the plum wine is kind of small, but it is good quality as well. Would like to come again soon.
I love this place... small place but cozy. Didn't know there was dine in here. We always order at this place through skip. Their pokè bowl was the best pokè I've ever tried. My new favorite. Also, their tempura ice cream was delish!
Food was excellent, cozy little place. Drink: Fuji Sumo - good balance of flavors App: Angry Edamami - This was a pleasant surprise with the chilis and fried garlic. Way better then the traditional sea salt and soya sause. Food: 1. House Roll - good flavor this was our favorite. 2. Baked Scallop Roll - Melted in your mouth, very fresh 3. Pressed Salmon - it was good, but the least favorite out of the 3 rolls. If you can't handle spice ask for it without the jalapeñosuper spicy 4. Chicken Yaki Udon - Little one loved the sause and noodles were cooked just right. Dietary restrictions: Able to accomodate vegitable food allergy
Eat here! Has some key dishes that are very hard to find outside of basically going to Japan. Specifically they serve okonomiyaki a type of Japanese pancake and takoyaki deep fried octopus "timbits" which are just outstanding! Even cool little twist of originality, like matcha beer. If you are someone who tries to find legit Japanse fare Sakura Izakaya is one of them.
10/10 experience, definitely my new favourite izakaya spot in town! The staff were all super pleasant and made us feel welcome. We tried the matcha beer and it was so refreshing and delicious, I haven't tried this anywhere else in Edmonton yet~ Pictured here: - Assorted Sashimi: the thickest pieces of sashimi that I've ever eaten at a restaurant before, you could tell the fish was super fresh as well! - Chicken Karage: juicy pieces with lots of meat not just all batter, the spicy mayo dipping gave it that extra kick! - Grilled Salmon Belly: probably my favourite part of the meal, the fish outside was charred nicely while the salmon inside was melt-in-your-mouth buttery - Pressed Saba Sushi: the rice was cooked perfectly and each bite was extra savory! Not pictured: - The yummy Strawberry Nigori sake we had for dessert and quickly downed tastes just like juice We will undoubtedly be back, came for the food, stayed for the sake.
Pleasantly surprised by the food and the atmosphere. Fish was fresh and served at the right temperature and the service was friendly. Will definitely return to try more of their dishes.
Takeout is always packaged so neatly and tastes great! Sashimi is fresh and thick cut. Tuna tataki had great flavours. Our cat also appreciates the big paper bag.
