This restaurant is a gem! My family and I enjoyed a fantastic evening at Izakaya Tenkuu. The interior was beautiful and welcoming, the waitress was very kind, and the chefs were lovely too! All the seafood tasted like it came straight from the ocean. You can really tell that the employees care about the experience their customers have! We loved the delicious chefs special Blue fin Tuna rolls, they were versatile on the palate, with crisp tangy cucumber, a bit of heat, fresh micro greens, and melt-in-your mouth blue fin tuna! Kid-friendliness: Welcoming place for my daughters, we even saw other families bring their children in and it was a great experience!
Tried a takeout order from this place for the first time today and we are really impressed! Sushi tasted so good and fresh. The staff is extremely friendly as well. We are definitely coming back.Food: 5/5
Not bad! The service was a bit slow as we had to wait 30 minutes for one of our dishes I think the kitchen had forgotten about that part of the order but we weren’t in a rush so it was okay. The salmon inferno roll is delicious and I would definitely go back just for the roll! Everything else was alright, but I honestly did not find the chicken teriyaki on noodles dish very good… the only flavour was salty… the atmosphere is nice but I prefer to have some natural light there weren’t any windows in there but it’s common for the other places in the same area.
We ordered the rainbow roll which was fresh and flavorful. The fried oysters were crispy and juicy. The butter garlic clams are a must try. We also ordered the red tuna sashimi which had a nice firm texture and good taste. We will definitely be back.Food: 5/5
Really good sushi and service. They get a weekly shipment of assorted, fresh fish straight from japan, and on this visit, it was blue fin tuna and Hamachi. Had both and they were amazing. Probably the best blue fin sashimi I've had in Alberta.Food: 5/5
I like the set up of this sushi place. They can only accommodate few customers which makes it less crowded. So better book a reservation ahead. The foods are fresh and delicious. My kids favourite is the tempura.Food: 5/5
Delicious good! The times I've went they get very busy during peak hours such as lunch and dinner. It's also a smaller location. If you're looking for extremely fast service at these times you may not get it. Highly recommend them for having some delicious food with friends while enjoying drinks. Owner is extremely nice, nice to chat with. Definitely recommend.
Good service; attentive and gave time to order and look over menu. Refilled tea as needed! Not pictured here but the electric shock roll was very tasty and well balanced. Ika squid had a delicious sauce and seasoning but was a bit tough. Chew and swallow carefully! Order more than you would think, the portions were not quite large enough.
What an amazing first experience at Izakaya Tenkuu. I met a couple of friends and we shared a number of dishes over the course of the night. I enjoy Japanese cuisine, but I'm not typically a fan of sushi or sashimi. But everything I tried here was absolutely delicious, from the tuna sashimi, monkey brains don't worry, no monkeys were harmed for this dish, dragons eggs, crispy chicken rolls, tuna Maki I believe the chef mentioned it was bluefin tuna, chicken skewers, yam and prawn tempura, to the garlic edamame. The Sake was great as well, and we even got to experience their most expensive Sake which was delightful typically sold by the ounce. The restaurant itself is quaint, nicely decorated, and very clean. My one friend who lived in Japan for 2 years mentioned that it very much reminded him of restaurants in Japan. Probably the best part of this whole experience was being able to speak with the chefs at the end of the night, as we were the last group. They shared their stories and experiences of learning their craft and working in Japan and elsewhere, along with their travels. We'll definitely return for another visit and experience!
I was in south Edmonton and wanted to eat Japanese food. I took a look at google maps to see what was closest to me and Tenkuu came up. Tenkuu is a small Japanese restaurant located south of South common and north of Ellerslie road on Parsons road. Its tucked away in a strip mall I personally never even noticed before, so use your GPS. Even though it is a small location it is very nicely decorated and has a warm and welcoming feel. Normally when I go to a Japanese restaurant I like to get a donburi rice bowl or a bento, Tenkuu doesn’t offer either of those, instead focusing on sushi and what I would call appetizer food. I went with their Salmon and avocado sushi, gyoza and chicken karaage, everything was absolutely delicious. I’ve said it before I’m not a big sushi person, I very rarely eat it and 2 or 3 pieces is all I’m good for. However the salmon and avocado was great, I quickly devoured all 8 pieces. The gyoza were also perfect, only 5 pieces however each cooked excellently. Feeling a little full I still cleared all the Chicken Karaage and was completely stuffed afterwards. As for the cost I can’t recall the price of everything, nothing felt overpriced, think I spent maybe 30 something? I am going to say Tenkuu is THE BEST Japanese restaurant in Edmonton. When I return from Northern BC where I work I am definitely going there again. Vegetarian options: Im sure their veggie tempura is delicious. Parking: Fair amount of parking. I went when it wasn't busy so hard to say as there are other places around it that might fill up come a dinner rush.. Kid-friendliness: If your kids are well behaved and they like sushi, not a dennys.
