Amazing campground! Very clean bathrooms no smell, quiet, rustic, many sites on the water! Only issues were the lake was small so we couldn’t fish and some sites are near the highway so it’s constant noise but not too bad at night! Other than that it was great!
First time camping in Algonquin. Was told this was a popular campground so I thought it would make it easier to get the lay of the land. It was a great choice. The lots offer good privacy. Washrooms were usable. They have one main building with showers and excellent washrooms. The campground itself is quite scenic. They offer animal proof food lockers for rent. Firewood is available for purchase. All in all I would visit again but be sure to make reservations. It's very popular.
First thing I would note is this lake is fully landlocked with no outlet to other lakes, and is fairly small compared to the other lakes in the vicinity. A 5-minute canoe will take you across the entire lake. Campsite privacy is okay. We stayed at campsite number 90 which is right near the vaulted toilets, so that's actually quite handy. The beaches from the better beaches I've seen in Algonquin. I would say this campground is more kid friendly, there are hydro-enabled campsites available, and some of the yurts look brand new and amazing 2022! There are some cabins that can be rented as well. Overall we had a wonderful time at Mew Lake, although for a family on a tent with no kids, I think Tea Lake is a better choice.
It's a lovely campground, I visited the weekend before Halloween and the fall colours were beautiful. Halloween decorations on several campsites as well, which was cute. My only minor complaints are that we had some trouble navigating the roads and the noise from the highway could be loud. I think if you got one of the sites farther south, or with more tree cover the noise would be pretty minimal. Restrooms: There are several outhouses along the campground roads and even more water stations. There's also a central more equiped building with more restrooms and showers. Dog-friendliness: We saw plenty of dogs Picnic area: I can't say much about public spaces, but all the regular campsites have the typical Ontario Parks picnic table and fire pit
Second time for us winter camping here. This year it was way busier than last year despite-30 cold. The campgrounds are very nicely cleaned, except I’d say I wish there was a system for fire pits to not be filled with snow. I think for a campsite that is open winter camping it would be fair request. There are showers, laundry and clean washrooms. Also there’s a ice rank that is very beautiful at night with all the lights. Many hockey equipment to pick up and play but you gotta bring your own skates. There’s a hot tent and big fire pit around the rank to hang out and socialize. I really liked it. We’ll be back for one of the yurts. I do say campsites are way too expensive now. $50 per night is a bit too much for a campsite. For a winter campground I’d expect an camp store and maybe simple dinning restaurant and also winter activity rental in the park. something similar to pinery park. Other than that great campground.
First the good. The new Yurts are much more roomy inside and the propane fireplace heat is much better than the older style they had in previous years. The ice rink is great this year and the washrooms are tidy and much warmer than in previous visits. On the downside there is construction happening. Our Yurt is in the middle of the 2 cabins and 2 Yurts they are adding. Between 9:30-4:30 there is constant banging, vibrating from the compactors, exhaust fumes from the equipment that idols all day and back up alarms constantly beeping as they move equipment back and forth. It's really too bad because you come here to hear the birds and enjoy nature.
A beautiful campground that is open year round. I highly recommend a visit to Mew Lake ! We enjoyed Winter camping again this year for the 2nd time and our site was great. It was nice to have power to run our heater. We enjoyed hiking with our snow shoes during the day at Spruce Bog Trail, Hemlock Bluffs and Track & Tower. Our favourite part was feeding the chickadees! They will eat right out of your hand. The weather was decent and actually warmed up a bit by the time we left. It's a great place to enjoy some peace and quiet.
Mew Lake was beautiful. We choose fall camping, it's not for everyone because it's cold and quiet, and sometimes wet. But the colours were perfect.
Pros: clean, secure, nice beach Cons: close to the road so you will hear cars going by all night. The firewood that we bought from the campground was soaking wet and extremely hard to use
The staff was good and Algonquin is beautiful. But be very careful when buying wood. Ours was wet and we had difficulty burning it.
