Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Our group was around 13 people and there were lots of space early in the morning when it first opens it does get quite busy later in the day and in the evenings/nights. The ambiance is bright with retro designs and very aesthetic. The food itself is good. Got the Lobster Benedict - the poached egg was cooked well but the fries were a bit on the drier side. Mel’s is also known for its milkshake so those are a must try! Overall great diner to try if in the area!

The best dinner to come to if you're looking for a retro style place to eat at! It's a great place to come with friends and family. There's lots of options to choose from between breakfast and lunch meals. I got the chicken and waffles $14.99 and it was very filling and delicious! I loved that the syrup had a little spice which elevated the meal. The atmosphere is great and the staff are nice as well! It can get busy so definitely come early if you're looking to get breakfast/brunch.

I recently visited Mel's Diner for brunch and had an overall positive experience. The atmosphere was charming and welcoming, and the staff was polite and attentive throughout my visit. I ordered the Meat Lovers Skillet, which was flavorful and filling, though the sausage and bacon were a bit overcooked and slightly burnt. Despite this small issue, I still enjoyed my meal and appreciated the great service. I would recommend this restaurant to others looking for a cozy spot to grab a bite to eat!

This is one of the Best breakfast restaurants in Waterloo region. It’s got the 50s/60s Retro diner look with a working Juke Box. The staff is very friendly and efficient. A group of 50 were being served when we arrived but they immediately got us seated and served us our breakfast in a very timely manner. We ordered their breakfast special and a eggs Benedict option and it was perfectly cooked. The rates are very reasonable as well. The breakfast special is $6.99 before 10am. Highly recommended.

This is a classic breakfast spot near campus. Just go with some friends and grab a booth. The food isn't anything special to be honest, but the vibes are good. I'd recommend their Chicken Waffle Benny and I'd probably steer clear of the Buffalo Chicken Poutine. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't enjoyable to eat in terms of texture and flavour.

The atmosphere here is really great. They make it look just like an old timey cafe with an active record player, old movie posters, and even an old dial telephone. The food was pretty good too but nothing too special. It's a great place for a date if you're at the university of Waterloo :

Great atmosphere. The restaurant is designed like a 50s breakfast diner. I love going there just for the vibes. The food itself is average I recommend getting their soup of the day, price is also average, customer service is good.

Iconic and classic atmosphere with a menu that is equally so. Great flavours and portions, make sure to come while you’re hungry. Lots of vegan options, and staff that know the menu like the back of their hand. Thanks for the great experience!

We went for a brunch and was not disappointed by the ambience each table had a retro movie poster which I loved and the staff and the food! Super fast and kind service. We tried a variety of breakfast options and all of them had good portions and super tasty. Will definitely come again whenever visiting waterloo.

Went here for brunch with my bestie and had the greatest time! Amazing gluten free menu and the service was fantastic! Love a restaurant that transports you back in time, looks and feels like a 50s diner. Place was clean and you can tell there is a level of care in the food and the place.
