Story

The Mayfield Veterinary Hospital has been providing quality animal care since 1972. Dr. Jelto Schiebel purchased the practice from Dr. Ed Spratlin who built the original practice in 1958, one of the first practices in Edmonton. From the times of one veterinarian and a single assistant to now, where we have 3 veterinarians and a full team of paraprofessional assistants, we are a true health care team. Everyone plays a vital role in offering the many aspects of quality health care. We have been fortunate to experience the rapidly growing knowledge and technology in veterinary medicine, and most recently, the acceptance of pets as true members of our families.

Staff are friendly and efficient. We’ve been using them ever since we moved to Edmonton, and they’ve always taken good care of our cats.
Called and got an appointment right away and people were friendly and took the time to listen to my concerns but very pricey. I called ahead of time too to gage approximate cost before I went and asked the receptionist how much it would costs for checkups, in which she asked me how many cats, then she responded $133. In which it is $133 per cat not for both but that part was a simple mistake in understanding. The part that took me off guard was that after the check up and determining that my cats seem to be quite healthy, in proper weight range only thing that stood out was they both had heart mummers which the doctor mentioned that it is very common. I was also concerned about my cats puking and wanted to know why they were puking so now I’m changing food because she can’t see anything else that would cause the puking based on the checkup because they both seem healthy. So then got bloodwork done but there is no warning of how much anything costs in between unless you specifically ask regularly on your own during the checkup because what I initially thought would be at maximum checkup of $300 for both cats ended up being $690 seemingly out of nowhere to me. I know for some that might not be a big deal but for someone like me that is the difference between being able to drive to work and eat for the month.
I can't say enough about this vet clinic. Very wonderful, caring people work here. They spend time with you answering questions, and go out of their way ensuring that your pet is comfortable. I have a foster dog that needed extensive dental work and they were wonderful with him. 10 stars out of 5 !!!
As far as buying food for your pet from here goes, avoid it. Every single time I pick up food it seems to cost a different price..vastly different. Obviously the staff doesn't understand their system very well? Then when I bring it to her attention no reason behind why she almost charged me 12$ more just "oh last time you paid this much so I guess we'll just charge you the same as last time" um can you not confirm the actual price? Online it's 49..in store anywhere between 50-72$ for the same bag. I will buy the food online from now on so I can pay the correct price everytime.
Im so happy I chose VCA 3 years ago when I got my dog. Always a great experience
Dr. Sydie has been our family vet for 16 years, and I can’t say enough good things about this clinic. Their staff has always been professional, friendly, and it is evident everyone who works there truly loves animals, and wants to do what’s best for them. It’s not the cheapest, but you always get high quality care.
Best care anywhere! The only place that I'll take my furry buddy. Other vets get him very anxious. But at Mayfield he seems more relaxed than he is at home! They always go the extra mile. When I sheepishly explained that it was quite the "event" for me to trim his nails, they immediately took care of it for me n/c! It's so bizarre to me the way he fights me off when I get the clippers I'm gentle with an encouraging voice to calm him. I was warned he had "catitude" from the shelter. But he seems wary of men. The caring staff have him relaxed and willing to be poked & prodded-he loves it! The Only vet for my Ghost! Thx VCA Mayfield!
Very caring for my boys and they love going in for appointments! They do what is in the best interest of the pet unlike other experiences I've had. They are amazing and take the time for all of my questions and needs. I recommend to everyone I know!
