Finally a place with freshly made rice rolls opened up in Burnaby! Don’t have to go to Richmond to satisfy my craving. The restaurant took over the spot used to be Hakkaku Ramen. We went there before 11:30 so took advantage of their $14.95 one rice roll + one congee breakfast deal. Pretty good rice rolls, thin and soft, and with lots of fillings. The congees were a bit watery and not much flavours. Like any other rice roll places, be prepared to wait for your food, especially they just recently opened so they were still trying to iron things out.
Got takeout here, portions were just okay in size. Both congee and the rice rolls were bland tasting. They skimped on the good stuff, we got century egg congee but it had no century egg in it, we did not bother going back to complain, there were only a 2 pieces of shrimp although decent sized and fresh put on the side for the 2 rice rolls. The quality of the food was pretty good, fresh ingredients, crispy well fried Chinese donut but you can't mess that up. We were really eager to try this place since there aren't much congee rice places around this area where we live, we might give it another shot down the road, but we were a little disappointed. Friendly staff and pretty clean interior, restaurant is on the smaller side, and being on hastings means there are plenty of street parking and dedicated free parking lots around the corner.
They're still ironing out the issues that would be normal for a business that's been open for a week. Several tables had their dishes come out late and the servers were quite apologetic. I really wanted to like this place because there aren't many congee/rice roll places in North Burnaby. The congee base was good, but the ingredients weren't consistent with what we expected from a Hong Kong Style "Tang Jai" Congee. The Chinese doughnut was served cold and it tasted okay but expected more from a congee-specific place. The Beef Rice Noodle Roll had beef slices instead of the usual ground beef... Not sure if they're trying something different or they ran out of the ground beef. We'll probably try it again in a few weeks since it's in the neighbourhood and still new, but it definitely wasn't a mind blowing meal...
Loved it and will return after the grand opening tomorrow. Rice rolls are made fresh when order . The owner was super friendly and gave us suggestions to what we should try and explained to us how the rice rolls are made. The beef fried rice noodles are cooked perfectly and not oily. Can't wait to go back.Food: 5/5
Portions are generous… congee a little bit bland but that’s ok. The rice rolls are to die for though! It was super good Recommended dishesRice Roll
Sliced fish congee is my favorite and it was satisfying but I missed the peanuts!! Still gotta try more of their menu. Didn't disappoint for a traditional Chinese breakfastFood: 4/5
I ordered the breakfast combo: scallop and shrimp rice roll along with the preserved egg and pork congee. Congee was good and flavourful I’m guessing they read the reviews from others about the blandness and changed their recipe. The pork was super soft in the congee. The rice roll is definitely something I would recommend and would go back for.
Best restaurant in the area. Delicious congee and rice roll. They made a little different ingredients on similar call name of the dish with other congee/rice roll restaurants they marked clearly on their menu, so ensure you choose the right one. Great deal of Breakfast Combo 09:00~11:30.
There's MSG in the congee. The rice rolls were ok but not as smooth as some other restaurants. We went later in the day, and the deep-fried donut wasn't as crispy as I had hoped. Compared to dimsum, the rice rolls were pricier but the congee was a good deal. Both were around $9-11 each.Food: 3/5
This may be my favourite new restaurant in Burnaby. Food tastes great and tastes like it's prepared fresh. Their ricerolls have the perfect chew and texture of hand-made ricerolls. The congee is silky but not overly thick, just the way I like it. Their morning special combo of congee and riceroll is enough food for 2 adults or 1 person with a big appetite at a great value of less than $15. Be prepared to wait for the seating and food though since, I assume, the ricerolls are prepared fresh and the restaurant gets packed quickly in the morning. Well worth the wait in my opinion and I'll definitely make this my new weekend breakfast stop.
