Best tempura I’ve ever had. Unique selection of vegetables : seasonal mushroom from BC, asparagus, okra etc. Yam tempura roll was crunchy, flavourful and generously filled. The seafood was extremely fresh and delicious, melting in the mouth. Service was excellent, our waitress made great conversation. The location is adorable with little flowers at each table. Every dish is a sight for the eyes with its lovely presentation and delicate ceramics.
My friend and I were wowed by their miso eggplant, tempura and canapes. The tempura, in particular, was really fresh and the selection of vegetables used was distinctive such as oyster mushroom, baby corn, okra, cauliflower, etc There is a lot of detail put into the presentation and flavorings that stood out. They have a good selection of cooked and raw dishes. We had a really nice meal and the ambience was quaint and cozy. The service was attentive and awesome. The tables were also reasonably spaced out. We had a really enjoyable time and I would definitely return.
There's some creative dishes with really pretty presentation here, but this is the classic "looks better than it tastes". Most of the food tasted rather bland and the only standouts were the canapés and tempura, which were crunchy and deep-fried to perfection. The sushi was fresh but that's like the bare minimum for a restaurant that offers sushi. Everything was incredibly expensive for the portion size and there was a 20-min wait every time we placed a new order. Overall, the experience was disappointing.
The best high end sushi in the area! They always use the most fresh ingrients and the plating is amazing. I love their Nori Canapes - Wow. crispy and tasty. Another thing to try is their beef roll! So tender and unique. The owner is so kind and the service is impressive. Will definitely come back with friends!
Managed to get a bar seat walking in. Small place but amazing service and food. You can see the effort put into the food, both in freshness and flavour topped with presentation. The nori canapes were the absolute highlight, great flavor and perfect size so each bite had a bit of everything. Eggplant was the second highlight. Will be back to try other dishes.
Fantastic restaurant with a new Japanese dish I have not have anywhere before and it tastes great. The texture of the deep fried seaweed sashimi wrap is amazing. There is only 2 Sake options, but the house cold sake is very smooth and floral. Highly recommend.Food: 5/5
You absolutely HAVE to get the nori canapes. It's just beautiful. Honestly can't wait until I can go dine in again because it's hands down my favorite restaurant East of the Don River at this point. Takeout is great as well but I find it's best if it's eaten right away. And also the presentation is beautiful every time as well.
Pretty good Japanese restaurant that uses good quality ingredients. Service probably could be better, but the industry is facing a pretty bad shortage of workers.. there was this one gentleman that was very nice and running around the restaurant to make sure customers were helped, kudos to him. We ordered a variety of food, and you can expect to spend about $100 pp after tax/tip if if looking to be somewhat full with 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks. The salmon canapes were very good and pretty different from what you'd get at other Japanese joints. Tempura vegetables are a must order. They come out piping hot, fresh, crispy and perfectly battered. Chirashi don also another must order. You get a ton of fish for $45 and the rice is really well done. The nigiri I found the fish on the thin side... Ordered salmon and blue fin tuna nigiri and it was ok, but nothing amazing. Lastly, the Negi toro hosomaki small Maki was very good. A good amount of minced tuna belly. They did give us 4 pieces of complimentary deep fried rice cubes, which was a nice touch. Overall, good food and decent experience. Hopefully their service improves with time. Cheers.
A lovely Japanese fine dining restaurant in Leslieville. It's spacious indoor and you could also dine outside. Food is tasty and the portion is just right. Service is friendly and attentive. Do not compare this with your average ayce sushi places. Maru is a place where you come for quality and elegance through beautiful dishes.
Hands down the best Japanese restaurant in Toronto. Deemed somewhat of a French fusion take on Japanese cuisine, the menu is exceptionally and every dish is made with fresh, high quality ingredients. The staff are so genuine & the owner is incredibly kind. Don't bother going anywhere else.
