Wow wow wow. And another wow. Mama Roux delivers a stellar dining experience. We made a reservation for brunch with the ability to specify outdoor dining, as we were traveling in the area with our dog. We were seated promptly at what felt like the best table in the house, under a beautifully constructed porch area with interesting architectural salvage. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They gladly brought our pup water in a disposable container. The only tough part of the experience was choosing from all of the incredible menu options. We were thrilled with the Korean chicken and waffles, and shrimp and grits. My alcohol-free cocktail was fragrant, pretty, and delicious. The interior decor was impeccably done- even the bathrooms were gorgeous! My husband is trying to convince me that it wouldn’t be crazy to drive 2+ hours for brunch here another time soon, and we very well might. I know it would be worth it! Already looking forward to the next experience at Mama Roux.
Thought I wrote a review but I guess I get to do this again. I would come back again of course as they have many things going on here including delicious dishes I haven’t try yet. We got here on a theme night which looks like Havana night or 60s. All the staffs are dress up and bring the life into this little town. I think this place has the best cocktail and food in miles and best date spot. I ordered their fried chicken which is kind of a given for a southern theme restaurant. It didn’t disappoint at all and I actually love it. Every pieces are well marinated top with a few side each with individual flavor. Decoration here is romantic and lively. It’s a great change to pandemic life especially on a reasonably warm night and their outdoor dining. Also the service is amazing and warm.
Found this gem while in town for a wedding. Our table was in their spacious outdoor seating. Although I liked to note the floor is gravel, a little bit tricky to move around out stroller, but we made it work. Also, for all those with a baby, we did not see a changing table in the bathroom. The resturant only has brunch on Sundays and has a DJ to set the chill and relax atmosphere. We had a wonderful experience. Staff was friendly and our waitress was fabulous. We ordered the Gumbo that took me back to New Orleans with a nice spicy kick. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor combinations in the Korean fried chicken with waffles. The chicken was cooked perfectly with a nice spicy crunch on the outside and the waffle reminded me of cornbread while a dollop of fresh whipped cream cooled it down. Absolutely delicious and my fave during our meal. The Soft Shell Crab Benedict was a great take on this brunch classic. The biscuit had great texture and taste. I really liked the crab, but had my husband eat the crawfish as I was too lazy to peel them. For dessert we had the Apple Cider Beignets. The beignets were a bit more chewy and doughy then the ones I’ve had in New Orleans. I think having it a la mode would of brought it up to a whole new level. Thanks Mama Roux, we hope to visit again in the future!
A true gem in Newburgh! Worth 100% of the cost which is about $30-$40 per person if you get a cocktail. We went for brunch and I got the soft shell crab Benedict which was absolutely delightful. New Orleans influenced decor is spot on to create a cozy atmosphere that doesn't feel out of place. Don't miss an opportunity to go here!
I think we ordered the wrong things, it was okay nothing memorable. The food was served in hot plates, caitlyn the waitress was very jolly and nice. The food took too long. Decor and ambience was great
Love this place! Just so so good. Great for a special occasion. Dress up and make a great night of it. Spectacular addition to Broadway & City of Newburgh:
Great food, music, energy, and entertainment. Make sure to stop by for the brunch on Sunday. It was great to see such a diverse group of people to enjoy this drag brunch. It also helped that the food was so good! Will definitely be going back to try the Korean chicken and waffles.
I want to begin by saying I had high hopes for this place. A very creative idea in an area where I would not have expected it. The ambiance was terrific, down to the wall decorations and the mesh of tranquil but attention grabbing colors of blue and brown. The service by Caitlyn our server was 5 star so much so we gave her a nice tip. She was the only server working the tables along with two other brilliant servers at the bar. This was a problem as we waited 10 minutes after sitting to meet Caitlyn. Who was very apologetic. For a 40 seater indoor excluding the bar of about 8 not including those sitting outside restaurant, a 3 server and one hostess model was awful and it showed. Caitlyn did her best but a bit rough to serve the crowd. We ordered the sweet biscuit and I have to tell you this was not very good. It felt like Pillsbury dough biscuit you get in the can. They simply bought the smaller versions and cut some fruits in it and placed it on top of milk chocolate. It was not very good at all and not for $15 dollars for two biscuit. Our meal of Korean chicken and waffles and the plum and black kale salad was okay. The salad had pistachio of which my wife is allergic but Caitlyn was quick to correct this for us amazing woman. The chicken and waffle idea an interesting combo but didn’t work. First thing it was cold and had a piece of hair in it. Which Caitlyn once again correct. the soy sauce and the syrup and whip cream were an interesting combo not my taste but it was ok. Our eggs with cheese came out very late and the hash brown which never came out were replaced with baked potatoes which was just ok. Overall it was a great idea but brunch menu was not very good. Our server made things so much more manageable. We wish them luck in the future but sadly we won’t be going back.
Overall nice experience. Our waitress was awesome although obviously overworked. Seems to be the norm these days unfortunately. Our cocktails were fabulous. I had the Freya which was excellent. Appetizers were spot on, delicious. My grilled trout was excellent, crispy on the outside and steaming hot and tender inside. Two of our party had the Jambalaya, which was disappointing. First there was only one crawfish, more of a garnish than an ingredient. The jambalaya was lukewarm and seemed like it wasn't cooked long enough. It had taken so long for it to come out of the kitchen that we were offered a free drink so I found this puzzling. This was our first visit and we will certainly come again soon.
Fantastic Meal, great space, atmosphere, service, food and drinks. Loved that they have a nice non alcoholic cocktail menu in addition to regular alcohol options. Lots of great small plates, steak frites were cooked perfectly and the sauce was luxurious. A real cheat meal! Worth every calorie. Highly recommend for date night or getting together with friends. Kid-friendliness: Patio is very child friendly, inside dining is a bit more upscale and maybe not the best choice for a rowdy child.
